A mesmerizing tale of art and passion in Belle Époque France.

As a woman, aspiring sculptor Camille Claudel has plenty of critics, especially her ultra-traditional mother. But when Auguste Rodin makes Camille his apprentice - and his muse - their passion inspires groundbreaking works. Yet Camille’s success is overshadowed by her lover’s rising star, and her obsessions cross the line into madness.

Rodin’s Lover brings to life the volatile love affair between one of the era’s greatest artists and a woman entwined in a tragic dilemma she cannot escape.

I liked getting a bit of an education about Rodin and Camille Claudel. It’s a shame she had to deal with the male dominated art world.

Interesting story

A compelling story, well researched, reflects historic as well as contemporary challenges to female artists. The voice of the protagonist, and the narrator, are authentic to the period as well as the poignant struggle to express authentic femenin reflections. Anita Perez Ferguson, author, educator

Herstory unvarnished.

I absolutely hated this book. I slogged through to the end because I needed to for book club … but honestly … I did not care one iota about the characters. And the reader - her voice was like nails on a chalk board for me. The annoying voice of the main character. I could barely stand it. I understand that it is history but nothing about it felt interesting. Neither character had any redeeming qualities. There really was no character arc to speak of. Unfortunately, it was an endless conversation of the same story with little or no ending.

Too many hours that I simply cannot get back - skip this read.
