Now updated with a new chapter

In his first and only official autobiography, music icon Elton John reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, from his roller-coaster lifestyle as shown in the film Rocketman, to becoming a living legend.

Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of 23, he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt, and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.

His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with song-writing partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael, to setting up his AIDS Foundation to conquering Broadway with Aida, The Lion King, and Billy Elliot the Musical. All the while, Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for more than a decade.

In Me, Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father. In a voice that is warm, humble, and open, this is Elton on his music and his relationships, his passions and his mistakes. This is a story that will stay with you by a living legend.

I did like it, but something is missing. Maybe more stuff from the music side. How Records where done and stories from there (in studio).

Good but not great

Disclaimer - I’m a HUGE Elton fan, so I’m by no means objective - but this wonderful Audible book feels like a great story told over dinner or at a friends house. Taron did an incredible job with narrating, which is a different skill than just acting... so props to him! Elton, thank you. Thanks for sharing your story in detail with the world. I’ve always read the bits and pieces, but you putting it together like this is both interesting and enlightening to see. Through it all, you’ve managed to keep your spark and humanity, even while behaving badly. What really matters to you shines through, and that is a love for music and a love for close personal interrelationships that transcend.

Beautifully Read, Honest Account

This was as great as I was hoping it would be! I thought it was perfect that Sir Elton John read the prologue and epilogue. Taron Egerton was the perfect reader for the rest of the book. This autobiography managed to be both entertaining and heartwarming, while being at times unflinching and honest. There were some great tidbits of information about other well-known people and interactions they have had with the author, but this is not a gossipy exploitative or salacious tell-all. It is truly the story of an incredible man’s life, and how he experienced and felt on his journey to arrive at the place he is now. Truly a wonderful audiobook!

Wonderful!

Wow! What an amazing life. Good, bad and ugly but for all Elton John endured, or drama he created for himself, the world is much more beautiful and kind.

Taron Everton... BRILLIANT! You satisfied my “I didn’t want the movie to end!” Into over 11 hours of getting to listening to you tell the whole story.

Much love of Elton’s career before this but so much admiration for this story of survival. ❤️

Thank You Sir!
