“Fierce and unrelenting.... Do yourself a favor and get lost in this beautiful book!” (Tomi Adeyemi, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Children of Blood and Bone)

"Narrator Shayna Small delivers a versatile performance in this young adult fantasy filled with mermaids and magic." (AudioFile Magazine)

Set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with song, and magic is a choice, Adalyn Grace’s All the Stars and Teeth is a thrilling fantasy for fans of Stephanie Garber’s Caraval and Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series.

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer - the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder - and more peril - than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected...or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.

I get that this is setting up for a sequel (I sure hope) but the resolution..... was not good. And not in like a cliffhanger waaay or like the usual way a book like this would set up for a sequel. like I genuinely didn’t agree with almost anything the main character did for the whole last chunk of the book. and I was really enjoying it, it got to the big reveal in the cave, and to my mind there was a very obviously correct way to proceed from there. Amorra clearly did not agree though, and it all kinda went downhill from there. I’m absolutely baffled with everything about how she handles the situation by the end. ***SPOILERS*** like ok Amorra, lie sommore to maintain your position and image, that’ll fix it!! hello??
***UNSPOILERS***
unsure if a sequel will ultimately end up in a place that I can feel good about or satisfied with. not sure if I will get a sequel when it inevitably presents itself

not sure about all that

All the Stars and Teeth is fantastic!!! The story is super intero and the magic is totally unique. It's a really cool, fresh take on this genre that I'm sure will surprise and delight a lot of people.

I'm the sort of person who sometimes struggles with books slowing down... this does NOT do that. It has some of the tightest pacing I've seen in a fantasy novel while still managing to give me a great description of the world.

The audiobook was actually my second read, so it was very interesting to contrast the narrator's interpretations of these characters with my own. in particular, I found myself SO much more entertained by Ferrick via audio. He's read in a way that I found very endearing :)

I'm SO hyped for the sequel and definitely looking forward to seeing more of Adalyn Grace's work!!

LOVED this book! amazing story/pacing/characters

As for narration I couldn't get past Feric's (so) voice. she did a good job at all the females voices the males she definitely struggled with but kudos for effort.
As for the story, the setup was really good and I love how the main character actually gets hurt often, showing more reality than some of the books can do. but I'm having a hard time with the ending it just kind of leaves you I'm wanting a little bit more and her choices were not like her.

spoilers: I don't know if it's because of her soul splitting or what happened but it just seems out of character.

Curses ahoy!

If these characters are supposed to be people of color I certainly can’t tell from the narration. I was unimpressed with the storyline and the performance.

Mediocre At Best

If you can get past the narrators heavy breathing and awful male voices its enjoyable.
Starting off the story I was concerned that I was in for yet another overpowered princess tale. Although that it partially true, the challenges were enough that I was willing to give it a shot.
Betrayal and deception are plentiful in this book as well as some interesting swashbuckling scenes. I wish we got to spend more time on the individual islands and world building, but with the upcoming second book I am expecting that we will get to see more.
Overall a good read, it certainly fed my internal adventure beast.
