In New York Times-bestselling science fiction epic Out of the Dark, Earth beat back an alien invasion. Now we've got to make sure they don't come back, in Into the Light.

The Shongairi conquered Earth. In mere minutes, half the human race died, and our cities lay in shattered ruins.

But the Shongairi didn’t expect the survivors’ tenacity. And, crucially, they didn’t know that Earth harbored two species of intelligent, tool-using bipeds. One of them was us. The other, long-lived and lethal, was hiding in the mountains of eastern Europe, the subject of fantasy and legend. When they emerged and made alliance with humankind, the invading aliens didn’t stand a chance.

Now Earth is once again ours. Aided by the advanced tech the aliens left behind, we’re rebuilding as fast as we can.

Meanwhile, a select few of our blood-drinking immortals are on their way to the Shongairi homeworld, having commandeered one of the alien starships...the planet-busting kind.

I read “Out of the Darkness” many years ago, enjoyed it, and it stuck with me. I always wanted a sequel, and was thrilled when I saw this coming out. I loved it. Good mixture of tension and humor. Interesting evolutions of technology and exploration of biases and their effects on society. I can’t wait for the next one.

A great sequel - long overdue

The first story was great & the voice acting terrible. The second story is awesome & the voice performance even worse.

Great story. Grating voice performance.

I've seen several people mention that this ends on a "soft cliffhanger," they're MASSIVELY underselling it. It finishes the story arc for the Shongari, and deals with a founding race. That's it. Like, it ends in the middle of the storyline. To the people calling it a "soft cliffhanger:" this is not that. It's like watching/reading Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, then just...stopping and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King because it was never made. It doesn't address the whole reason that the Planetary Union was formed: to either establish a peace treaty with the Hegemony, or eradicate them. It ALSO doesn't delve into what happened with the disappearance of one of the founding races. This is an incomplete story arc. I'm fine waiting another two years for book 4, 10/10 though.

This is NOT a soft cliffhanger, it's half-finished

I really like the story. I had a hard time with the narrator. He inflected the same accent on every character, and being southern I’m not sure what accent that was. He also cannot pronounce “schedule”, and for some reason that bothered me greatly. Would have been a much easier listen if they used the previous books narrator.

Good book, would have been better with the original narrator.
