Audie Award Nominee, Science Fiction, 2013

Padlocked doors. Strange light fixtures. Mutant cockroaches.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s. Because every room in this old Los Angeles brownstone has a mystery or two. Mysteries that stretch back over a hundred years. Some of them are in plain sight. Some are behind locked doors. And all together these mysteries could mean the end of Nate and his friends. Or the end of everything....

Editorial Review

If you love a good mystery and are even remotely interested in sci-fi or horror, 14 is the perfect escapist treat, and listener-favorite narrator Ray Porter is at the top of his game in this performance. Plus if you loved LOST like I did, this book will help with those withdrawals you're likely still experiencing (just me?)Sam P., Audible Editor

Okay, I'm not a big SciFi person, but.....

Thought this was going in another direction. Still it was pretty darn awesome. I knew that character was not really who he pretended to be. Who? Well you'll have to read to find out.

It is a bit freaky to find all these crazy things going on in a place you live. Thinking it was going to be one ending I was scared at night. Then when it became apparent it was a different ending I was disturbed, but no longer scared.

A good book. Didn't want to stop listening!

Believable story line with a to be expected ending but that was the only criticism.

Enjoyed it

Very entertaining story! Ended kind of abruptly but that's okay. Will look for more by this author.

Great Story and Narration

I enjoyed this story although It became a little far fetched in places. The reader is introduced to some quirky characters whose interaction is interesting, lively, and entertaining. The story is fast paced and holds your attention as the characters continually discover new mysteries about the building they inhabit. At times it did stretch the imagination a little far. The narration was excellent being particularly good at keeping up with all the characters in their somtimes fast paced dialog. In all, a great story.

Fun ride!!!

This story was a fun ride! I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. The story is very science fiction. There is not much to say without ruining the plot. Enjoy. :D

Fun twists I didnt see coming

I realized when it was all over, that I didn't know the characters as well as I might have liked, but the mystery and fun of their adventure made up for that. A good read, I recommend it

Great story and great narrator

Really good Mythos story with clean, clear imagery and interesting characters. Ray Porter brought it to life with solid acting and identifiable voices.

REVIEWS

Any additional comments?

This book was waiting in my list for a while, but i just kept brushing it off. Finally, the reviews got me and i got it. I regret not listing to it sooner. This book kept me coming back to the phone all the time. The way just enough information was feed to keep you on your toes. Usually I can start to follow the flow of the book and predict the next event, but with this one I could not.

Well, that was fun!

Really a fun book for a sci fi lover. I have been listening to a lot of apocolyptic type things lately so this was a refreshing change. good mystery early on. Humorous writing and the narrator did a great job with all the characters. I would love to sit on the roof and watch a sunset with a beer with this group.

Don't be scared by its "horror" genre--

Would you listen to 14 again? Why?

Yes, it was so chock full of good plot I know I missed some things!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tim--the mystery of him was never revealed

Which scene was your favorite?

spoiler....won't say!

Any additional comments?

don't be scared by the genre, I enjoyed this book thoroughly and I don't normally read the horror genre. I think it appeals to everyone.
