#1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author Naomi Klein makes the case for a Green New Deal in this “keenly argued, well-researched, and impassioned” manifesto (The Washington Post).

An instant bestseller, On Fire shows Klein at her most prophetic and philosophical, investigating the climate crisis not only as a profound political challenge but also as a spiritual and imaginative one. Delving into topics ranging from the clash between ecological time and our culture of “perpetual now,” to the soaring history of humans changing and evolving rapidly in the face of grave threats, to rising white supremacy and fortressed borders as a form of “climate barbarism,” this is a rousing call to action for a planet on the brink.

An expansive, far-ranging exploration that sees the battle for a greener world as indistinguishable from the fight for our lives, On Fire captures the burning urgency of the climate crisis, as well as the fiery energy of a rising political movement demanding a catalytic Green New Deal.

“Naomi Klein’s work has always moved and guided me. She is the great chronicler of our age of climate emergency, an inspirer of generations.” —Greta Thunberg, climate activist

"If I were a rich man, I’d buy 245 million copies of Naomi Klein’s 'On Fire' and hand-deliver them to every eligible voter in America…Klein is a skilled writer." —Jeff Goodell, The New York Times

Critic reviews

"Naomi Klein's collection of previously published articles on climate change is likely to divide listeners along political lines, but that's a shame. Perhaps Rebecca Lowman's evenhanded narration will go some way toward widening the audience for Klein's work. Lowman manages to capture the edge and the urgency of the author's voice without ever being cloying. Klein's plea for action on climate change stretches beyond reducing the use of fossil fuels and includes unabashedly left-leaning calls for income equality and improved access to healthcare and postsecondary education. These ideas are backed up with thoughtful and practical arguments about how and why they must be part of the bigger plan to cool our planet. Lowman's narration makes them sound even more palatable."

Yes. It is absolutely possible! And, is absolutely necessary! This book is essential reading for essential change. The author speaks to the economic benefit, as well as the life saving benefit, of our need to address Climate Change with further procrastination and denial.

I totally recommend this amazing book!!!
I'm a house painter who works with his hands all day, face constantly staring at one surface or another. listening to this Audio book while spending the week painting a fire station i constantly had tears and snot running out of my face.
Tears of hope, of sorrow, anger, and self deprecating blame. Naomi's books always touch me, and this one especially gives me more than the motivation I needed to become the climate warrior that our earth and children have been waiting for. My gloves are off and I'm ready to start swinging into the ignorance!

There’s so much to this telling that needs highlighting, re-reading, sharing and discussion.

Gratitude for Naomi’s steadfast support of Indigenous people and people of Color in this critical time. For providing dialogue around intersectionality and immediate positive ways to work on it with heart.

Inspirational. Naomi provides guidelines to mitigate climate change.
Well researched, realistic rather than false hope.

Klein makes the clear case that an all-encompassing, deadly global change is here, and that it will get massively worse. We can cease to exist as a species, with black and brown people, as usual bearing the pain first and worst, but from which no one will escape. Alternatively, if we face facts and embrace justice (finally!) we can make a sustainable world.

Stark choice.

And we are out of time.
