Sir Odo and Sir Eleanor still think of themselves as unlikely knights. But when their kingdom is threatened by forces of signifant nefariousness, they and their talking swords join a bold quest to rescue a monarch, vanquish deadly beasts, confound a prophecy, and (if they're lucky) avoid stepping on the tail of a very powerful dragon. This series is just fun. It very much reminds me of being young and having simple joys and aspirations. I look forward to the rest of the series and being able to share this with my child once they are old enough to enjoy long stories.

Thankfully this book does not rely on dragons, although the cover had me worried. I am now motivated to want to hear the setup of young Sir Odo and Sir Eleanor's journeys. In this one, there is a ex-king, blinded and in disguise. He is no Pellanor; he plays the role of the wise man who might be second guessing his past. The two young protagonists are sometimes upstaged by their willful weapons. Despite their deadly swords, rendering others unconscious seems to be the standard procedure in this world. Humor deflects concern about credibility - success depends on a spelling bat. In the end, slapstick comedy slightly defuses the peril of the waking dragon, Hopefully books 1 and 3 are just as good and young readers will treasure it as much as I did a similarly titled story series by R A Heinlein.
