Moorings is the third in a chilling series of books which will rapidly convert followers of L. J. Ross, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis and Helen H. Durrant into David Blake devotees.
When Harry Falcon, a wealthy boatyard owner and decorated World War Two veteran, is found drowned in his bath, DI John Tanner and DC Jenny Evans start by questioning his two sons, each with a motive for wanting him dead. But when the elder son is found with his head smashed in under a toppled yacht, and the younger son has been talking to a local property developer, one who’d spent months trying to buy the yard from his father, the investigation soon leads them towards a dark and dangerous secret, one which nobody can quite believe. Set within the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a murder mystery that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

A Masterful Crime Thriller That Hooks You From the Start
David Blake’s Moorings is another brilliant addition to his Norfolk-based crime novels, showcasing his trademark blend of atmospheric setting, gripping mystery, and authentic character development. Set against the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of the Norfolk Broads, the book captures both the serenity and hidden menace of the waterways, weaving a crime story that feels as unsettling as it is compelling.
Blake has a gift for immersing readers into his world. The descriptions of the moorings and rivers are vivid, almost cinematic, creating an environment that is as much a character as the people inhabiting it. The tension builds steadily, never rushing, but keeping the reader fully invested in uncovering the truth. His pacing is spot-on, alternating between moments of quiet unease and bursts of heart-pounding action.
The characters are particularly well-drawn, with depth and realism that makes them easy to connect with. Whether it’s the sharp intelligence of the detectives, the flawed humanity of suspects, or the way Blake reveals hidden layers of seemingly ordinary lives, everyone in Moorings feels real. The dialogue is natural and often laced with subtle wit, adding authenticity to every interaction.
What makes this novel shine is how Blake balances plot and place. The mystery is intricate without ever becoming convoluted, and the twists are both surprising and believable. Just when you think you have the case figured out, Blake deftly pulls the rug out from under you.
For fans of British crime fiction, Moorings is an absolute must-read. It combines the suspense of a first-class thriller with the rich atmosphere of its Norfolk setting, creating a book that lingers in your mind long after the last page is turned.
David Blake once again proves he’s a master storyteller. Moorings isn’t just a crime novel—it’s a journey into the darker undercurrents of human nature, set against one of the most hauntingly beautiful landscapes in England.

Another good murder-mystery ‘starring’ John Tanner and Jenny Evans. This time it was about the murders of a father and his 2 sons then the discovery of a lot of murdered young women, including Tanner’s daughter, a year before. It was a very exciting story.
The only romance was of Tanner and Jenny living together but there wasn’t even a kiss shared between them and the F-bomb was used 15 times.
As to the narration: LOVE Jonathan Keeble! He’s an awesome narrator.
