Most of us never get to test ourselves in combat.

As a UH-1 Helicopter pilot flying in the jungle highlands of South Vietnam, Warrant Officer Jim Crigler and the men he flew with were tested daily. Coming of age in the late 1960s and early 1970s was challenging for most young men of that era. Throw in drugs, free love, draft notices, the Vietnam War, and a country deeply divided, and you have one of the most important books of this genre.

This true story is a raw, bold, introspective autobiography where the author openly wrestles with his personal moral dilemma to find meaning and purpose in his life. He calls it his "Mission of Honor."

Thank you Jim for writing your memoir. What an incredible story that is extremely thought provoking regarding politics, war, innocent victims, love, relationships, youth, death, friendship, wise words, timing, luck, brotherhood, and much, much more. It is a read that makes me want to start the book all over again. From your Vancouver Island retreat pal😉-G

Loved a new approach to telling the Viet Nam story…..everyone makes mistakes and starting the story with two unbelievable mistakes, weaving them throughout the story and coming to terms with the consequences and acceptance of our mistakes makes for interesting reading. Thank you for sharing your story.

A New Perspective

The book is sensitively and honestly written. Although the missions in 1972 were not as intense as before the war was winding down, they were non the less dangerous. But, this book is also about the role of Warrant Officers and their roles flying helicopters. I was one of the last Warrants in the Air Force when it its infinite lack. of wisdom, the warrant officer program was discontinued in the Air Force. This was probably a political decision. Now that drones have become an integral form of warfare, the Air Force has reinstated the warrant officer program to fly drones because the ‘real officers’ only want to fly fixed wing air craft. Soon, military strategists will discover that drone warfare. . Is the air war of the future.
