I knew I'd ruffle feathers, but the day I walked into Rockport High, I had no idea the cheap shots that were to follow.

You see, the Ballers and I have a history. They play basketball. I play basketball. But they hate that I play basketball as good as them. And the only thing they hate more than that, is me.

That's right. I'm a girl, and I. Can. Play. Make no mistake about it.

The Ballers can do their worst, but I will earn a spot on the RHS boys' team. This is my last resort to make a name for myself, and I can't let them interfere - even if the so-called kings of the school have declared war against me.

Contains mature themes.

I've seen this book available for a long time and I'm kicking myself for waiting this long to listen. It was so good! I was hesitant because I don't have any real love for basketball or sports. Shame on me. This was so well written and not the same reverse harem story we've heard over and over again. It was fun, sexy, challenging, heart wrenching and had likeable characters. I so rarely rate any books 5 stars, but this one gets them all. I'll definitely get the next one.

I absolutely loved this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and I absolutely have to have/start the next one immediately! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters in this one and things are definitely complicated between them. Tessa is making some big changes in the midst of things changing at home and she is pursing her dreams. She wants to give herself the best leg up for basketball and so has enrolled at Rockport High and plans to try out and make the boys basketball team as there isn't a girls team. She has had run ins with the Ballers, the starting line at her dad's basketball camp during summer and it is complicated between them. She is expecting push back but hoping to stay under the radar for a little while. That doesn't happen and the Ballers start the bullying as soon as they see her at lunch her first day. Tessa is drawn to the Ballers, except for Lake who absolutely hates her, though she isn't sure why with what they have done to her in past but there is just something there. This story is on the darker side of things with the bullying but I wouldn't really consider it very dark though it definitely has some elements of it. This story definitely deals with bullying though Tessa is very strong and I love her best friend, Dawn, that she meets on her first day as well. It gives her a strong support base and one that she can share things with. Tessa has her goal and she is not going to back down and is out to prove herself. When she starts getting attention from some of the boys and they start making moves she is both on board and hesitant due to history and what they have done in the past. This one definitely has some twists and turns for how things go down and there are lots of secrets going on around Tessa and she is caught in the middle. While things seem to have a bit of time going well, Lake is beyond adamant in his hatred of her and out to take her out in pretty much anyway regardless of the fact that his best friends like her and it causes things to go bad. This one leaves you with things having taken a turn for Tessa but she is determined and ready to tackle the next thing. I can't wait to see her take things head on again.
The narrator did a great job with the story as well and the characters. It was easy to engage with it. The emotion was showcased well.

Loved it! Great start to the series!
