True Love: Children to Adult Obstacles

I loved most every bit of this story; but there were too many times where both her uncle & the hero were so mean & callous to someone they supposedly loved that (regardless of the so-called "rationale) it seriously detracted. And the heroine, after having been abandoned by her childhood friend, capitulated too easily in the beginning. This undermined her resolve for freedom & any respect for her independence. She had plenty of fortune & had only been there a week...WTH? It just seemed preposterous that she would just constantly & stupidly place herself willingly into a position to be abused & controlled by her uncle & supposed love-of-her-life. Even hurrying back to her sick uncle's side rather than just sending a letter when she fled him in the first place was just so idiotic. Somehow the author's logic for her character lapsed & her perpetual victimhood was somewhat pathetic, not brave or enlightened. Adding in the suffragette sentiments just confused what her character's actions had already proven throughout. All of this detracted from the HEA. Both hero & heroine were cowardly & patheticly willing pawns for others rather than deserving freedom fighters for their love. Sadly so after 9 hrs of listening.

Loved the childhood friends to lovers theme. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
