And when Kiel's brother Kinnor, a loose-cannon military man, arrives to investigate, a local leader with revenge on her mind threatens to bring ruin on them all.

As a Mikuhran diplomat, Wind must head off a conflict that could have spiritual, political, and military ramifications. But when Wind encounters Kinnor, the situation becomes more personal than anyone expects.

Excellent story, awful narration

The story and worldbuildin are rich, characters complex, and writing excellent. The narrator is awful, though. i listen to loads of audiobooks but this chick is hard to hear sometimes because of constant whispering and a growly mumbling used for several characters' voices, plus a confusing, sing-songy cadence that puts inflections in all the wrong places. I ended up switching to a paperback copy and rereading much of what I'd already listened to just to understand what was happening.
