In the depth of a cruel High Lonesome winter comes a cryptic message for Smoke Jensen. The letter tells of skullduggery by gold barons, railroad magnates, and Chinese tongs in San Francisco. Smoke knows only one person in the city by the bay: the well-rounded, open-natured Francie, mistress of one of the town's most notorious pleasure palaces.

Smoke once rescued her from raiding Cheyenne, but now Madame Francie is mysteriously dead...and Smoke's arrival in San Francisco is less than welcoming. Then, on the waterfront, he learns of a plot by the wealthy, the mighty, and the deadly to expand their stronghold over the region's gold-rich lands. Beating a trail into the High Sierras, Smoke recruits a band of angry prospectors, ranchers, and farmers for a final showdown that could be the end of Smoke Jensen....

Performed by Mort Shelby, James Lewis, Joe Brack, Steven Carpenter, Yasmin Tuazon, Michael Glenn, Terence Aselford, James Konicek, David Coyne, Tim Getman, Eric Messner, Christopher Graybill, Johann Dettweiler, Richard Rohan, Michael John Casey, Jonathan Watkins, Dylan Lynch, Thomas Penny, Ken Jackson, Colleen Delany, Scott McCormick, Peter Stray, Andy Clemence, Chris Rohan, Nanette Savard.

I didn’t care too much for this story. It definitely wasn’t one of his better ones. I also don’t care for the loud music playing when people are talking

Too much city and not enough Wild West

This is another good book about Smoke. This book has a different feel about it. But is as good as any other one. Smoke goes to help lewis Lamont. There in a war with Cyrus who wants to control everything. He tries to take some of lewis Lamont holdings. Smoke is like a one man army. Plus he has lewis by his side. There is a lot of gun fighting. starting out Cyrus sends his guys after Smoke. Then Smoke turns it on them and Cyrus is in the run. Smoke has plenty of tricks to win the war. This is a movie in your mind style of book with several narrators. They do a good job bringing it to life. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

After a very long wait, Louis is back and it's been worth it! Another stellar performance by the graphic audio players and good story by Mr Johnstone - only sorry I had to wait so long to read it.

I haven't been able to review the last two books, read via graphic audio productions' performances, which were purdy darn good, as usual. But since these were supposedly written directly by Mr. WWJ. 'his ownself, I'm still appalled by all the continuity errors! Smoke leaving home at age 12? That was Preacher! Smoke was on his farm in Missouri until his father came back from the war when he was almost 17 and then they left together. Little things like that just make me want to shoot the editor! I want to go on but won't ;-)

Louis is Back!!!
