The first three interconnected stand-alone fairy tale retellings from the Four Kingdoms series

Book 1 - The Princess Companion: A Retelling of The Princess and the Pea: This retelling of the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Pea reimagines the risks and rewards that come when one royal family goes searching for a true princess.

Book 2 - The Princess Fugitive: A Reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood: In this reimagining of the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, the girl in the red hood has been swallowed up by the wolf and must decide if she's willing to fight for her freedom, no matter the cost.

Novella 2.5 - Happily Ever Afters: A Reimagining of Snow White and Rose Red: Sarah and Evelyn have already risked everything to help Ava win a crown. But they soon learn that a coronation is a beginning, not an ending. Not everyone in Rangmere is happy to see the young queen on the throne, and intrigue and danger lurk all around.

The cousins find themselves fighting not only for their new kingdom but also for their own survival in the royal court. When a new threat emerges, the two girls must defeat it to both save the crown and secure their own happily-ever-afters.

This is such a fun series. I love the story telling/writing of Melanie Cellier. It's so refreshing to have a story teller who doesn't need to write sex scenes into a story. These stories are immensely creative and fun, Esther Wane does a fantastic job narrating these books.

If you love entertaining, enchanting clean HEA stories I highly recommend this series, you wont be disappointed :)

Melanie Cellier’s The Four Kingdoms Box Set One is a charming and spellbinding collection of fairy tale retellings set in a richly imagined world where royal intrigue, personal growth, and magic collide. This box set includes the first three books in the series — The Princess Companion, The Princess Fugitive, and The Princess Pact — plus a bonus novella, giving readers a sweeping introduction to Cellier’s whimsical universe.

Each story draws inspiration from a beloved classic — think The Princess and the Pea, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Twelve Dancing Princesses — but reimagined with strong, intelligent heroines who aren’t waiting around to be rescued. Instead, they face political danger, internal struggles, and even curses with grit and grace. Cellier’s writing is clean and accessible, perfect for fans of YA fantasy who love romance that’s sweet and slow-burning, alongside empowering character arcs.

What sets this series apart is the interconnected world-building. While each book focuses on a different princess, the characters weave in and out of each other’s stories, creating a sense of continuity and growing tension that keeps readers turning the pages. Themes of loyalty, love, courage, and the power of choice are central throughout.

That said, readers looking for darker or more complex fantasy plots might find these stories a bit light. The pacing occasionally leans slow in places, and the stakes, while emotionally resonant, are more fairy-tale than high fantasy.

Still, for fans of clean romance, court intrigue, and fairy tales with a fresh feminist twist, The Four Kingdoms Box Set One is a delightful escape. It’s easy to fall in love with Cellier’s world — and once you do, you’ll want to dive right into the next series.
