War hero and daughter to two Houses, Kira is just beginning to learn how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Agreeing to accompany her father's people back to their homeworld, Kira Forrest prepares for the fight of her life. She's agreed to undertake the Trial of the Broken, a rite of passage every member of her father's House must pass. It offers a path to independence and freedom that is too tempting to deny.

Not everyone welcomes this lost daughter of Roake. There are those who fear what her presence might bring to light. Betrayal stalks the halls of Kira's birthplace-its roots embedded deep in the events that claimed her parent's lives and set her on her current path.

Walking the wire's edge between truth and deception will test the person Kira has become as she separates ally from betrayer. An old enemy has put into motion a plan that could topple the balance of power in the universe. Letting them succeed spells doom - but the price might be more than Kira is willing to pay.

While the point of view through the eyes of the main character, Kiera, can be incredibly frustrating at times. The over all story is so compelling that i listened to the first and second books back to back, staying up past 24 hours for each book. Lol i might have had a few roid rage moments when i was interrupted.
The story structure has a few bumps in it from time to time. Mostly in dealing with terminology. words would be used or concepts would be known, even though the character in question shouldn't have had knowledge of such things at that time. I saw this in the first book far more than this one, but it was still there. Kind of seemed like the author forgot which characters knew things. The biggest thing that i didn't understand throughout both books was how Kiera didn't know what she was. at the time of the series beginning her species had been known for a while and other than her smallish stature she supposedly looks like them. How many other space elves with magic powers are there? Honestly the more this story goes on the more confused about that i got, i mean she is partnered with a seemingly well informed alien You would think it might have come up at some point. Seems it might be something of a plot hole to me.
Speaking of things i didn't really understand, Why did it take until the middle of the second book for anyone to actually ask if there were any other survivors beyond Kiera? The Tuon seem rather nonchalant about there being evidence that their missing children might still be alive. Hell when kiera Was asked all she said was that she was the only one in HER camp that was found. And there was zero follow up to it. Perhaps it's just me but i kind of expected there to be more begging for information rather than just a casual question from a single person.
Kiera is an amazingly compelling and complicated character. She is loyal, honest, selfless, and honorable. Yet she is also broken, mistrusting, paranoid, and secretive. these two sides can often clash with one another in extremely frustrating ways. Especially her secretiveness. she will burn every bridge there is to keep a secret for a friend. Unfortunately i am increasingly positive that she might not actually have the right to keep such secrets. The last five minutes of this book only reinforced that belief. Honestly you could easily hate this character but i think she skates the edge enough that i would like to see her succeed rather than be crushed by her house of cards. ..most of the time.

Firebird Chronicles by T.A. White is an intriguing, action packed space adventure that should be put on your TBR list. The main character, Kira, is complex, damaged, but still loveable. The additional characters add layers to the story and cause more mysteries that need further solving with a sequel. If you're looking for an action packed series with a strong female lead give this a try. Please bring on more in this series!

TA White created a marvelous world of fantastical beings and complex characters woven with human nature’s strengths and frailties. She has imbued adventure and conflict with its dual realities of destruction, the pain of survival and joy of redemption. Entwined with humor and danger this book is a gleeful yell into the wind before a glorious leap into imagination. So looking forward to the next installment!

Love it! My New Favorite SciFi Fantasy Series!

This book was just as interesting as the first in the series! We get to learn more about the past of all the main characters. There's plenty of action, adventure and intrigue. Some slow burn going on, has me wanting more! The narrator still does a great job! I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!

More exciting developments!
