A terrible discovery. A secret that could destroy human civilization. A desperate escape to the most dangerous planet in the universe - Earth.

Two hundred years ago, a fleet of colony ships left Earth and started a settlement on Proxima Centauri.

Centurion Space Force pilot Nathan Stacker didn't expect to return home to find his wife dead. He didn't expect the murderer to look just like him, and he definitely didn't expect to be the one to take the blame. But his wife had control of a powerful secret. A secret that stretches across the light years between two worlds and could lead to the end of both.

Now that secret is in Nathan's hands, and he's about to make the most desperate evasive maneuver of his life - stealing a starship and setting a course for Earth. He thinks he'll be safe there. He's wrong. Very wrong.

Earth is nothing like what he expected. Not even close. What he doesn't know is not only likely to kill him, it's eager to kill him, and even if it doesn't?

The Sheriff will.

The story was not only great, once you got past the initial set up, it was fast paced and full of action. The narrator did an excellent job with just enough chances in his voice or inflections used to help me better identify what Character was speaking. I was pulled in and kept want in more. Book 1 ends at a great spot and makes me want to read the second book to find out what is really going on. One review I read said it was, and I am paraphrasing, true to the other earth trilogy, makes me want to find out if there are earlier books in this story line, I can’t wait!

Great Story

Feels like a blend of a few action books and some parts should have more detail like on character building.
My main personal issue was the sharif using “paws” or “pause” as the ok or acknowledgment it’s dumb

“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen”
Mean girls

I love Forbes Devils Rejects series. I just started this series having gotten this book months ago. I’m blown away! It starts a bit slow, once going, it’s originality, humanity, and reality within its own world setting is spectacular. What made it best for me was the wonderful reading by the narrator. He didn’t do voices much, but really had the perfect voice to give suspense and fierce passion to all the characters and why they did what they did from all sides. Well done M. R. Forbes! Now onto the next book…

Surprisingly excellent!
