A USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Amazon Charts bestseller.

International bestselling author Patricia Cornwell delivers pulse-pounding thrills in the first book in a series featuring a brilliant and unusual new heroine, cutting-edge cybertechnology, and stakes that are astronomically high.

On the eve of a top secret space mission, Captain Calli Chase detects a tripped alarm in the tunnels deep below a NASA research center. A NASA pilot, quantum physicist, and cybercrime investigator, Calli knows that a looming blizzard and government shutdown could provide the perfect cover for sabotage, with deadly consequences.

As it turns out, the danger is worse than she thought. A spatter of dried blood, a missing security badge, a suspicious suicide—a series of disturbing clues point to Calli’s twin sister, Carme, who’s been MIA for days.

Desperate to halt the countdown to disaster and to clear her sister’s name, Captain Chase digs deep into her vast cyber security knowledge and her painful past, probing for answers to her twin’s erratic conduct. As time is running out, she realizes that failure means catastrophe—not just for the space program but for the safety of the whole nation.

Brilliantly crafted, gripping, and smart, Patricia Cornwell’s cliffhanger ending will keep listeners wondering what’s next for Captain Calli Chase.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Thriller fans are in for a treat as narrator January LaVoy performs Patricia Cornwell's latest.... LaVoy is a vocal shape-shifter gliding between fluid narrative; the staccato, gravelly voice of Calli's sister, Fran, a police officer; gruff male characters; and Calli's increasing paranoia. As Calli follows the trail left by her missing sister, LaVoy's tones echo her growing distrust—of herself." (AudioFile Magazine)

wished I knew the end of this book. It's a powerful read but hard to keep tract and know how it ended.

Very technical worthy read.

This book had entirely too many tired and overused cliches, dialogue pedantic and monotone and way too much detail of things that were not relevant. I struggled through to the end to find out what happened in the "break room incident" to be left without an explanation of what actually happened to her finger. The ending was very disappointing. What happened to her sister? Did they find her? Why were her parents so "calm? It had such promise. Science info was way too much and I'd dare say, over most people's interest or knowledge. I am going to request a refund.

A waste of time ---

I found this book to be scattered. Too much time is spent on the narrator telling us how much she’s done and accomplished. While it is important, it ends up sounding like she’s reading us her resume. The critical part of the story is crammed at the end and leaves too much hanging at the end. I’m not sure if I care enough about the characters to read the next book.

Too Many Unanswered Questions/Elements

It was like the story fell off a cliff. It is going along and then that is it, the story ends and nothing has been resolved. The last several books by Cornwall have been disappointing. Too much detail where detail is not needed and then the story comes to an abrupt end. Cornwell’s past novels have been outstanding but the last several are just not measuring up.

Very Disappointed
