Graham Masterton is one of the horror genre's most celebrated and popular writers. Now, after eight years of writing crime fiction, he is back with this terrifying novel about a haunted house on Dartmoor.

All Hallows Hall, a rambling Tudor mansion on the edge of the bleak, misty moor is not a place many would choose to live. Yet the former governor of Dartmoor Prison did just that. Now he's dead, and his estranged family is set to inherit his estate.

But when the dead man's family come to stay, the atmosphere of the moors seems to drift into every room. Floorboards creak, secret passageways echo and wind whistles in the house's famous priest hole. And then, on the morning the family decides to leave All Hallows Hall once and for all, their young son, Timmy, goes missing....

It was a huge struggle to finish this, on fact I accidentally left it playing I think and it finished without me. ao I guess I couldn't even get there bc I'm not going back to listen. the performance was good. but the actual story lacked slot for me. There were so many characters and I don't feel like any of them were developed then there were so many additional characters added in. plus I thought this was to be a scary story and it definitely wasn't. others may like it, but not I.

I dod not like this book.

This book was a classic haunted house with a twist. It had everything! I loved it!!!

SO GOOD!!!!!

Was looking for a ghost story, but this is not one, so I was disappointed that it was under the ghost stories section on audible. I get the idea of twists, but just label the book as a supernatural tale so readers can locate the kind of story they are looking for.
That being said, the story as a supernatural story was interesting and original. Could have used some more likable characters though and perhaps characters that were a little more concerned by the situation. However, its worth a read if you are wanting something original.

Supernatural story, yes. Ghost story, no.

This was a true haunted house story! I loved it, all the way to the end.

Haunted house!!!

Overall this was an interesting listen, but if this were a real life situation, several characters did some really REALLY stupid things in trying to deal with the supernatural.
It took a little while to really get going but it was good as a "slow burn" that actually had a payoff (unlike so many Bad Haunted house stories that know how to start and set mood, but don't know how to pay it all off)
Without spoiling, one piece of advice they would have done well to follow is don't have dealings with cocky "exorcists" and self proclaimed witches, who think that the demon will bow to their commands with no higher power (G-d) Behind them... it doesn't turn out well here, or IRL, but even more so DON'T EVER try to call upon, much less confront, such spirits on your own.
Also when freeing an ancient evil, make sure to outline the terms of his release BEFORE you finish the job... that's just good sense.
The reader is good but is very heavily accented. This was not a problem for me, but might be for some.
She didn't do much in the way of "voices" but did do a few other accents, so she gets a 4 from me, better than average, but not great.

Don't take any "advice" from this story...
