A lazy and wussy ex-gamer, Phil becomes one of the few humans who receive a mysterious alien piece of wetware that allows them to see the world through an augmented-reality interface very similar to those used in an MMORPG game. Guided by its stats and messages, Phil begins to level up, gradually transforming himself and his life. He even opens his own business in order to help his friends and complete strangers who acquire a newfound respect for him, assisting him in his travails.

As Phil continues on the road to self-improvement, guided by his own conscience rather than system messages, he tries to find out more about the mysterious third party that has bestowed such superhuman abilities upon him.

at first you may think you'd get tired of hearing about thongs like the daily exercise or him helping people find jobs and yet when they go to the more fantastical things I find myself on edge waiting to find out if that kid learned to swim.

I enjoyed Book 1 more than Book 2.
Perhaps because of the novelty of premise of the idea.
Living life as though it was /is a RPG.

Interesting premise - enjoyed Book 1 more

I think this book was great a unique blending of multiple concepts, it also makes you look at character development and personal development differently. The only problem I had with this book was the translation, I felt like some of the words that were used may have been translated incorrectly or they used a version or meaning that did not fit the sentence that it was being used in at the time. I think that due to this, it didn't allow for a 100% translation nor did it convey what the author was trying to impart to the Listener. Apart from that it was a great book and concept. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Great book

Somehow it's a very compelling story despite the fact that it's mostly about normal life.

it really shouldn't be as entertaining as it is

At first, I was disappointed that the main character seemed to be wasting his gift on inconsequential job finding for a few dozen people in a poor Russian village. I'm glad I kept listening. He gets more ambitious as the story progresses.

second half of the book improved it
