Publisher's summary

On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik I, and the space race was born. Desperate to beat the Russians into space, NASA put together a crew of the nation's most daring test pilots: the seven men who were to lead America to the moon. The first into space was Alan Shepard; the last was Deke Slayton, whose irregular heartbeat kept him grounded until 1975. They spent the 1960s at the forefront of NASA's effort to conquer space, and Moon Shot is their inside account of what many call the 20th century's greatest feat - landing humans on another world.

Collaborating with NBC's veteran space reporter Jay Barbree, Shepard, and Slayton narrate, in gripping detail, the story of America's space exploration from the time of Shepard's first flight until he and 11 others had walked on the moon.

where were you when it happened?

Awesome review of the Moon program from both the US and USSR history. Space nerds will love it.

Enlightening

A must for space history folks. I liked the parallel but not exactly the same story of The Right Stuff. Final chapter is new information about Obama and his killing of NASA

Great book about NASA and the coming of age.

Loved learning more from someone that was directly involved with the program. I never knew that Obama killed NASA, makes it even clearer now of all of the other things that crook did!!

It felt like I was there!

Really well written, and read almost like a narrative. Was super fascinating. A must read for anyone trying to build something within an organization.

Excellent!

Great detail but not beyond the interest of space fans. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys the history of space flight and how we strived to get to the moon.

Definitely from Shepard and Slayton’s perspectives.

Moon Shot is definitely a book from Shepard and Slayton’s perspectives. I really enjoyed listening to their tales of space travel, training, and the obstacles they faced. I’ve seen other reviews mention the poor punctuation and grammar in the print version, but Grove does a good job narrating the audio version. Because I have always been captivated by space exploration, I really enjoyed this listen. I do agree that the negative reviews also have their merits though.

Great listen on the space program of NASA

The comeback story of Shepard and Slaton is one I did not know off until this book. Very insightful
