Emma Lewis has a lot on her plate. The single mother of two precocious twin boys, the last thing Emma needs is a man in her life, especially a doctor. So when the town's doctor goes on vacation and his handsome nephew takes over, Emma is shocked to not only find him standing in her bedroom, but accusing her of being a neglectful parent.

Clint Preston came to Westen for the year to fill in as the town doc while his uncle took a long-needed vacation. Clint also needed a sense of peace and calm to try to find his passion for medicine burned out by long shifts in an urban hospital's ER. Angered to find two boys in his clinic with broken wrists and no accompanying parent, he is determined to confront their mother. The feisty redhead he meets quickly dispels his belief that she's a neglectful mother, but he can see her situation is more critical than she wishes to face and finds himself volunteering to help care for her sons and the remodeling of her home.

As Emma and Clint forge a relationship, a menace from Emma's past threatens her and her sons. Clint and Emma join forces to prevent the loss of either boy and the love they've discovered in each other's arms.

Contains mature themes.

I've owned this book in print for some time and always loved the story. I was pleased to find it in audio and immediately purchased it. This is a heartwarming story of mistaken first impressions, snap judgments, and the intricacies of the precocious reasonings of small children. It is also the heartbreaking story of dealing with Alzheimer's and the crushing responsibilities of being a single mother in a small town...a single mother with a particularly NASTY ex-husband.

You'll cheer for Emma as she struggles to deal with everything on her plate. You'll also root for Clint once he gets his head out of his rear end. You'll also snicker at the antics of the twins. We're introduced to a number of secondary characters that will have their own stories down the road...each of them dealing with their own problems as best they can.

All in all, this is an amazing story and you'll enjoy it immensely. It certainly doesn't disappoint

I really enjoyed this book enough to buy the next book in the series.
What I liked: The narration was really believable and the different voices were easy to follow. I enjoyed listening to both the slight variances as well as times where more drama was needed to express the personalities of each character that displayed the narrator's prowess with character development without over acting. This a compliment, not only to the narrator, but also to the author whose distinctive character deliniation brought to life each character's personality. I applaud the author for well described character personalities.
I enjoyed this story a great deal as I can understand the trials and difficulties which were thrown at the main female character, Emma, whose resilience seemed to know no bounds through hardship and since having her lively twin boys. I respect her for facing up to the fact that in her past marriage she gave so much acquiescence to the consciousnessless husband whose betrayal new no bounds. She faced those dark days and became a force of incredible strength for her twin boys.

Dislikes: While Clint, the "Doc", was a force for good, a sweetheart, and a passionate yet wounded warrior, at some point, his endless patience for all of Emma's tantrums and deeply instilled trust issues was starting to become hard to believe. I know she was f***ed over astronomically by her ex, but Dr. Clint was almost too understanding when it came to all of Emma's load of baggage and trust issues. Her family loved her and was supportive as well as those in her small country town yet as much as she seemed to love Clint, she kind of took her trust issues out on him many times.

I enjoyed this book a lot...enough for 4 stars. I enjoyed the narration and the story, especially the antics of the twins. lol. I would recommend this to those who enjoy some romance and a few twists and turns that reflect the true grit in the trials of life. Definitely worth a credit!

great characters, a little predictable
