An evocative multigenerational Cuban-American family story of revolution, loss, and family bonds.

Marisol vanished during the Cuban Revolution, disappearing with hardly a trace. Now, shaped by atrocities long-forgotten, her foul-mouthed spirit visits her nephew, Ramon, in modern-day New Jersey. Her hope: That her presence will prompt him to unearth their painful family history.

Ramon launches a haphazard investigation into the story of his ancestor, unaware of the forces driving him on his search. Along the way, he falls in love, faces a run-in with a murderous gangster, and uncovers the lives of the lost saints who helped Marisol during her imprisonment.

The Book of Lost Saints by Daniel Jose Older is a haunting meditation on family, forgiveness, and the violent struggle to be free.

The narrator of this story is perfection. This is not an easy story to tell, but it is a masterful and heartbreaking one. Best book I've read in 2022.

Truly one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. The story was fabulous & the narration outstanding.

This book, a style of magic realism, tells the Cuban/ immigrant/ revolutionary/ betrayal of revolutions in a style that is both prophetic and allegorical. I was moved by the crisp narration of Ms Quintero, even though I often lost the Spanish/ Cubanismo, I never misunderstood the intent. Great successful storytelling and a hopeful tale apparently told by a ghost.

Amazing use of characters- family betrayals, idealism failed.

I had a hard time following the story at times, and the narrator was also hard to understand some times

A little slow at first but worth it to keep going, a great story. Must pay attention to pick up everything but still loved it.

Twists & Turns - what a great story!
