The most common triggers for homicide are fear, rage, revenge, money, lust, and, more rarely, sheer madness. This isn’t an exact science, of course. Any given murder can have multiple triggers. Sex and revenge seem to be common partners in crime. Rage, money, and revenge make for a dangerous trifecta of triggers, as well.

This book offers my memories of homicide cases that I investigated or oversaw. In each case, I examine the trigger that led to death. I chose this theme for the book because even though the why of a murder case may not be critical in an investigation, it can sometimes lead us to the killer.

And even if we solve a case without knowing the trigger, the why still intrigues us, disrupting our dreams and lingering in our minds, perhaps because each of us fears the demons that lie within our own psyche - the triggers waiting to be pulled.

Would be as good as the first except

Killer Triggers has everything you love from the I Will Find You plus one other thing: an a-hole. Clearly he's gotten feedback as a tv personality that the will audience respond better if he acts like more of an abrasive jerk. That's the other problem. It feels like an act. Kenda, there's no reason for that. The personality shown in your first book was charming and personal. You don't have to pretend to be a bad a_s cop when you actually are on.

This is a shame because the book is wonderful otherwise. The stories are well told and engaging. The new format keeps it from getting repetitive. And he often shows a lot of heart. The jerk persona is negatively distracting throughout.

So Hard Boiled It Hurts

This homicide detective is the real deal. He has seen so much death and depravity, and is so jaded by it that his performance alone makes it worth the price of admission. This guy is like a cartoon character, except he is deadly real, and extremely serious.

He goes over some murders, and delves into the motives and psychology of his investigative methods. The true gems though, are in his colorful asides which which range from arguing that children should be beaten because they are born liars, to rambling about a dog he loved because it was angry and dangerous. This guy is totally unhinged, and who wouldn’t be? He’s been looking at murder for a lifetime and a half. He also is super engaging, sharp, and full of compassion. Very interesting.

I have always been a fan of Homicide Hunter and Lieutenant Joe Kenda. I appreciate his ability to captivate an audience and tell stories with incredible delivery and wisdom. I can’t wait to continue his shows and works.

I hope there will be more books from Kenda

Joe Kenda is a fantastic narrator and author. He holds nothing back and is a refreshing change from the embellishments and drama added to other stories in the True Crime genre.
