They were on their way to being a real family...until she came into their lives.

Expecting their first baby, Judd and Evette McGlin are thrilled at the prospect of becoming parents. But their marriage faces the ultimate test when Judd learns he already has a child: a six-year-old biracial daughter, born amid secrets and lies. Now, Evette must decide if she can accept the child - and forgive Judd. She thought she was open-minded - until hidden prejudices threaten the future of an innocent little girl, Evette's marriage, and the very notion of the woman she's believed herself to be.

Above all things, this child needs acceptance and love. She needs Evette to discover what being a mother truly means. She needs Judd to face his past. And she needs them both to discover what it truly means to be a family.

I am a biracial female and find these negative reviews ridiculous. This story is about one family, not about every white southern family. Just because this topic may be uncomfortable, doesn’t make it bad. This story is honestly a very realistic and relatable. Having parents being uncomfortable with a child dating out of their own race, a white mother that doesn’t know how to take care of curly hair, the stares from outsiders, a black hair stylist pulling out the “pink stuff” ... this isn’t a horrible book, this is real life! More people need to read this and understand that to this day this still goes on. It’s okay if it make you feel uncomfortable, hard topics aren’t easy!

I enjoyed the lesson. it was interesting to hear the changes that we're accruing step by step. And it was very different from the other books, because it had a lot of mention about God.

God was all up in this story

Uplifting message. I recommend everyone to read this book. Reminds us of how God wants us to love each other.

Great story.

This is a powerful, emotional story of God's grace and His desire to grow us! It was absolutely beautiful, yet heart wrenching, too! I desperately pray it is not based on real people, for the suffering is great, but I trust God that if it is, He brought beauty and healing to their lives as well!
The narration was very good! Practically perfect!
