Als afroamerikanische Schriftstellerin verstieß Ann Petry mit "Country Place" gegen ein Tabu ihrer Zeit, indem sie nicht nur explizit über die Lebensrealität von Afroamerikaner*innen schrieb, sondern als Schauplatz für ihren Roman ein mehrheitlich von Weißen bewohntes Dorf wählte.
