Resumen del Editor
A 39-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder, Edward Stanton lives alone on a rigid schedule in the Montana town where he grew up. His carefully constructed routine includes tracking his most common waking time (7:38 a.m.), refusing to start his therapy sessions even a minute before the appointed hour (10:00 a.m.), and watching one episode of the 1960s cop show Dragnet each night (10:00 p.m.).
But when a single mother and her nine-year-old son move in across the street, Edward’s timetable comes undone. Over the course of a momentous 600 hours, he opens up to his new neighbors and confronts old grievances with his estranged parents. Exposed to both the joys and heartaches of friendship, Edward must ultimately decide whether to embrace the world outside his door or retreat to his solitary ways.
Heartfelt and hilarious, this moving novel will appeal to fans of Daniel Keyes’ classic Flowers for Algernon and to any reader who loves an underdog.

Historia
That’s the flummoxed state of Edward Stanton, a 42-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome. His job, his therapist, and his best friends are all gone. Even his nightly ritual of watching Dragnet reruns has short-circuited. But a call from his friend Donna in Idaho, telling him that her son Kyle is in trouble, launches Edward from his rigidly scheduled existence in Billings, Montana, to the open road. He and Kyle, a sweet little boy turned sullen adolescent, debate football, music, and bodily functions (“Why do you pee so much?” Kyle asks).

Historia
Change keeps stalking Edward Stanton. He and his new wife, Sheila, have retreated to his small house in Montana after an unsuccessful attempt at operating a motel in Colorado. That failure has left wounds, especially for Sheila, and now they face a bigger challenge: pregnancy and impending parenthood. Edward begins penning notes to the child (ever precise, he refers to the gestating being as "Cellular Stanton"), as he navigates married life with Sheila, who is unhappy and unfulfilled in Montana; a work partnership with his friend Scott Shamwell, and more.

Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

In 1761, a tiny, odd-looking girl named Marie is born in a village in Switzerland. After the death of her parents, she is apprenticed to an eccentric wax sculptor and whisked off to the seamy streets of Paris, where they meet a domineering widow and her quiet, pale son. Together, they convert an abandoned monkey house into an exhibition hall for wax heads, and the spectacle becomes a sensation. As word of her artistic talent spreads, Marie is called to Versailles, where she tutors a princess and saves Marie Antoinette in childbirth. But outside the palace walls, Paris is roiling....

After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Thomas Kilbride is a map-obsessed schizophrenic so affected that he rarely leaves the self-imposed bastion of his bedroom. But with a computer program called Whirl360.com, he travels the world while never so much as stepping out the door. He pores over and memorizes the streets of the world. He examines every address, as well as the people who are frozen in time on his computer screen. Then he sees something that anyone else might have stumbled upon - but has not - in a street view of downtown New York City: an image in a window. An image that looks like a woman being murdered.

My life was ordinary until three years ago when I was thrown out of a downtown hotel window. My name is Robbie Brownlaw, and I am a homicide detective for the city of San Diego. I am 29 years old. Sometimes when people talk to me, I see their voices as colored shapes provoked by the emotions of the speakers, not by the words themselves. I have what amounts to a primitive lie detector.

Sweet Edward
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Finding the "Edward" books came at the perfect time for me. I needed to be entertained with an engaging story due to some recent difficult life events and this "Edward" was the perfect remedy. Edward is such a likable, straight forward, linear guy. Yes, he takes it all a bit too far but he tries so hard to do things right that it is hard not to grow fond of him and his blustering ways. I enjoyed how he learned from his therapist and was thinking about the lessons he learned from her as he went about his daily life. I enjoyed how he stretched himself just a little at a time. This book was refreshing, sweet and hopeful while at the same time interesting and entertaining. I just had to read the next "Edward" book after enjoying this one so much.

A very interesting experience.
I absolutely hated this book at first - so much that I went back and reread the reviews. Yep- everyone did rave about it - so back to it I went. About halfway thru Edward grew on me and I totally did a 180. I warmed up to his character and am so glad I did. Will be looking to see if there is a next one

An extremely good picture of Adult Aspergers
It is not often that an adult with high functioning Aspergers is the star of a story. There are many stories about children. In truth, I saw children diagnosed so am familiar with them. There are not many adults as fictional characters with Aspergers found in a story. (I have read Temple Grandin's true life stories.) It was not only unusual but really interesting to have our "hero"actually a living example of it! We hear Edward's thoughts and see him using coping mechanisms necessary for him to succeed in life.
During the "600 hours" of the story there are a multitude of crisis some that we would take for granted, others that even without Aspergers would be difficult to handle. In many ways I found his skills were something I could use in my life, and put into practice as well.
Wonderful story. Well written with understanding and Not dry but funny, heartfelt, emotional, intelligent. I was pulling hard for him to succeed! I couldn't put the book down till the last word.

Edward, Not Great, but Better Than Pretty Good
I enjoyed this book most of the way through. Not into football so that part toward the end I skipped through. Also got tired of Drag Net. Loved it when I was much younger and there wasn't much on TV at that time, although the comedies were better. Thoroughly enjoyed the reader and would look for his work again. Not sure I would do any more of the Edward books. This one was well written and the characters sympathetic, but never someone I could identify with. Autism is big on TV and books lately, but reading this book my main connection was Sheldon on "Big Bang Theory". I could never find common interest with him or Edward. The insistence of everything being done over and over the same way would drive me crazy. I recommend this book for an enjoyable read...and laugh at times.
