Publisher's summary

Trapped by a final promise to a dying woman, a reluctant Zack Taylor seeks her missing grandson, a slippery con man of the art world. Zack discovers the corruption beneath the glossy exteriors, confronting murder, greed, fraud, and a host of crimes that belie the beauty of the art in which the people deal.

Nice mystery story; good performance

What did you love best about A Certain Slant of Light?

Interesting story that Phillips weaves. I read the first book in this series as well and he has come up with a character that is similar to Travis McGee from the old John D. MacDonald books from the 60s. His "detective" is Zack Taylor and is flawed and occasionally lawless in pursuing the truth but his tenacity leaves nothing left undisturbed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Peggy. She is a firecracker.

What does Steve White bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

There were several accents in the book that he pulled off well. The way he described the young man that the lobster man dredged up out of the water was well done and I could really visualize that grotesque scene well, more so than if I were just reading. I could almost smell the sea air.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's not overly long for an audiobook at a little over 5 hours, but I spread the listen out over several trips.

Any additional comments?

Hopefully more Zack Taylor novels are on the way. Good series that is fun to read and listen to.

Twists and turns!

Held my attention throughout. Too much language for my liking.

Steve White did a good job narrating.
