About this listen

Your soul is always in style.

Abandoned at six months old and raised in a religious home, Jen Principe had a less-than-glamorous childhood. Her father’s romantic entanglement with their housekeeper triggered a web of lies and over a decade of physical abuse, with Jen as the one-and-only target.

But there was one constant in her life: fashion.

Using her wardrobe as an outlet, Jen masked her adolescent trauma at home by changing her identity with different clothing trends. Learning the powerful psychological impact behind what we wear ultimately led to her dream job as a celebrity fashion stylist. Her childhood wounds marred her successful career, until a series of serendipitous events unfolded with a common thread of faith and fashion. From a gifted bracelet that changed a Holocaust survivor’s life, to a monk’s advice that helped Jen’s fashion career, to a reserved foreign exchange student who blossomed into a confident young woman—all her years of styling have brought one strange truth to light: Jen is a soul stylist with a sole purpose to help transform lives from the outside in.

A Common Thread will undoubtedly shift your perspective on what you wear and inspire you to don outfits that boost your confidence while finding your own inner stylist along the way. In fact, you, too, can find your soul’s style and model it for the world to see.

Bonus: You can have a personal liaison to the fashion world at your fingertips!

What a beautiful journey Jen takes us on thru her story!

I wasn’t sure what to expect but I saw Jen’s event on Instagram and I was intrigued. I decided to listen to her book on Audible before purchasing her book. I will absolutely purchase her book and not only add it to my library but I will refer to it for styling tips and tricks. I loved her vulnerability as she moved through the chapters of her life. She prompted me to consider some things in my own life that I need to tend to. I could relate to feelings of abandonment and pain and loved how she resolved them. This book is wonderfully woven with a life looked at from the past and present and all the while with her gift of style sprinkled in such meaningful and helpful ways. I highly recommend this book! 💕

Highly recommended

Enjoyable to listen to Jen telling her stories and sharing her life. The common threads that she weaves for the reader will last well beyond the end of the book. Bravo!

Amazing Book on Fashion & Faith

A fantastic author-read book. A Common Thread is pure magic; a book that weaves vulnerability, trust and faith around our clothing, and our clothing choices. Chapter 14, The Phoenix Effect, led me to tears. It’s the sheer essence of Jen Principe and her purpose.

It was through one of the Phoenix Effect’s recipients that I became a new friend of the author. I highly recommend this book to those of us who need to STEP UP our game & our style.

What a story

Even though i consider Jen a friend i had no idea the struggle she endured, how her life as a child and young adult made her who and what she is today is extraordinary. If you love fashion read this if you have a hard time with fashion read this, Just read it or listen like i did, i think i got a better understanding of how she got to the place she is now since it is read by the author, felt like she was telling these stories to me personally.

Boring, lacking substance

I completely understand where the author is coming from. However, It's frustrating when a book doesn't resonate, especially when the author is sharing personal experiences. It sounds like the author was trying too hard to connect with readers who have faced severe trauma, which can come across as disingenuous. Authenticity is crucial in memoirs, and when it feels lacking, it can really detract from the reading experience. The authors perspective is valid, and it’s important to voice it. However, everyone has different thresholds for what feels genuine and relatable, and it’s clear this book just didn’t meet my expectations.
