It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Story
Animals bring out the goodness, humanity, and optimism in people and speak directly to our souls. This joyous, inspiring, and entertaining Chicken Soup collection relates the unique bonds between animals and the people whose lives they've changed: such as the dolphins who helped a paralyzed woman heal when doctors offered little hope; the dog who brought life into a failing marriage; the kitten who helped a mother mourn; and the flying squirrel who taught a man the power of laughter.

Story
Colt Stafford's winner-take-all personality clashed with his father's similar temperament and led Colt to pursue his own success far from the Double S ranch. The opportunity came in private equities once he earned his way to a desk on Wall Street. But timing is everything and Colt's financial demise coincided with his father's illness. God's perfect timing doesn't always seem all that perfect, but Colt needed a job, the Double S needed Colt, and Sam sent his prodigal son a ticket, and Colt came home.

Founder Ellie Laks started The Gentle Barn after adopting a sick goat from a run-down petting zoo in 1999. Some 200 animals later (including chickens, horses, pigs, cows, rabbits, emus, and more), The Gentle Barn has become an extraordinary nonprofit that brings together a volunteer staff of community members and at-risk teens to rehabilitate abandoned and/or abused animals. My Gentle Barn weaves together the story of how the Barn came to be what it is today with Ellie's own journey.

Heartwarming
This book will touch your heart. It will make you laugh and cry and sometimes both at the same time. I listened to this for the first time last Christmas and just finished it again this year. I plan to make it a Christmas tradition.

Christmas Dog
I saw this movie a number of years ago I believe in the Hallmark Channel. I thought it was very sweet and had that homey feel. not overly romantic like so many of their movies are... but I digress.
when I saw this I wanted to see how closely the movie followed the book. not to bad but the book is much better.. (they usually are).
I might have to make this an every Christmas holiday read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Remarkable Story
I love this emotional Christmas story! Sometimes the lessons we try to teach others we need ourselves more. The love between the characters and the animals is so strong. Definitely worth reading this holiday season. The narrator does a fantastic job.

I loved this book so much I went out and bought copies of it for my family! The story was heartwarming, funny and sad in places; well worth the three and half hours of listening time required.

Loved it!
Such a heartwarming story with plenty of giggles. I didn't expect to get as sucked in as I did. Usually I am a mystery thriller horror story kind of reader but this was great. He is accurate on animal shelter operations and I love the message provided! A must for dog lovers!
