Publisher's summary

Stars. Lovers. Liars. Killers. This is Hollywood, and everyone has a part to play in a shocking novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author A. R. Torre.

Actress Nora Kemp loves two men. One is Hugh Iverson, a philanthropic movie star who gives Nora security and respectability. The other is Hugh’s twin brother, Trent, a Hollywood bad boy who brings out Nora’s wild side. When Trent and an unidentified woman are found dead on the Iversons’ Beverly Hills property, more than Nora’s and Hugh’s reputations are at stake.

An investigation suggests murder-suicide. But there’s more to the crime than first meets the eye: suspicions of a serial killer with a bizarre motive, Hugh’s unnerved and cautious staff, and a missing mother and son. As two LA detectives sift through the deceptions of the innocent and the guilty—some living and some dead—solving the case becomes a cunning cat-and-mouse game.

Because in a city of illusions, the truth—no matter how dangerous—is so easy to hide.

Critic reviews

“Nothing is remotely routine in Torre’s heady brew of serial murder spiced with fraud, torture, impersonation, and assorted celebrity hijinks…you won’t put it down till every last drop of blood has been shed.”Kirkus Reviews

“A thriller with surprises aplenty and a breezy pace that includes well-written characters and the singular challenge of looking for truth ‘in a sea of professional liars and seducers,’ this novel is sure to have wide appeal.”Library Journal

Good one! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏

Another good psychological story by Torre. It's definitely worth putting on film.
it a good and unusual story. unexpected plot.Kept me curious to find out what's next. Unfortunately, the outcome was predictable but I had hope for another twist.
The narration was fair. The format could have allowed an additional narrator.
For me, it was worth the credit
I always look forward to A.R. Torre books!

Great story

I loved this story, it never got slow or boring and while you knew there was going to be a twist it wasn't an obvious one. it felt like the ending was a bit rushed but I don't feel cheated. highly recommend!

Short chapters made for a fast listen

Upon beginning A Fatal Affair, I almost wished I would've physically read the book so I could keep notes of each character. But the audio was performed so well, that I couldn't help but be engulfed into the very twisted Hollywood murder-suicide world that A.R Torre created. It definitely kept me on my toes with the plethora of characters, but the short chapters kept my attention and wanting more.

The Detective, The Husband, The Mom, The Kid, The High Schooler, The Leading Lady, The Leading Man, The Accomplice, and The Sidekick are all the characters that have chapters devoted to them. And this is what kept me on my toes. Keeping everyone straight while trying to enjoy the way a murder mystery unfolded in Hollywood. The twists kept coming and The Detective was there every step of the way. I loved that "The Detective" was glue to the story and the one that had to piece everything together, obviously. I felt like I got to know them the most since they had the majority of the chapters. The other characters I didn't care as much about, but that seemed to fit the storyline since we just wanted to know what happened on that fateful night.
The twins aspect when it comes to mysteries is always a fun one to explore and although I didn't like all aspects of it, I did like the way it all came together in the end. I did have a small issue with the epilogue, but that didn't ruin my enjoyment of this audio. But next time, with this many characters, I'm taking notes!
