Publisher's summary

London barrister Jason Jonquil has spent his entire life working to establish his identity as a gentleman, a man of refinement like his father and brothers. But when fiery Spanish beauty Mariposa Thornton walks into his office, he finds himself losing his grasp on his dignified character. The woman is infuriating, pushing him to the limit of his legendary patience. However, her case seems simple enough - a small matter of inheritance. Or so he believes.

Once a well-born lady, Mariposa fought to survive the brutalities of Napoleon's war on Spain. She braved horrific perils and undertook dangerous missions on behalf of those fighting against the invading French army. But her greatest battle still lies ahead: after being separated from her family, Mariposa sets in motion a plan to reunite with her loved ones in England. To avoid drawing the attention of the French, Mariposa dons a carefully crafted persona to conceal her true purpose.

As Jason and Mariposa are drawn together by the case, they come to know the people beneath the masks they both wear. When the truth of Mariposa's quest is revealed, the couple is pulled into a mystery that will test the limits of their courage - and expose the true desire of their hearts.

love the story!

I was disappointed that the narrator wasn't British but she did a great job with voice inflections and the other accents of the characters, well as much of a Spanish accent can be without using the "zeta" because that would be a true Spanish accent.
There were many times that I laughed at the antics of the characters. You understood their plight and wanted them to win. I get that Mariposa's worse nightmare was to come across the Frenchmen who threatened her but that was a bit of a letdown.

Another wonderful Jonquil story.

The little glimpse of Jason and Mariposa I saw in a previous book, had me thrilled to finally get to hear their story. And like Sarah's other books, this one was full of love, humor, and heart.
Oh those poor potatoes.

Sweet Romance-Enemies to Lovers

A sweet regency romance set in England with roots in Spain. A Fine Gentleman is a light read featuring love mingled with a bit of war-time mystery.

Amazing

Out of all of Sarah M Eden’s Lancaster and Jonquil books it’s not my favorite but it is still very good. It’s very funny and entertaining but there are parts that are kind of long.

This story has all the feels. I laughed out loud and cried in both sorrow and joy. I love how Sarah writes and all the wonderful characters in her stories.

Very Good!

I enjoyed the audio version of this book. It was interesting to read A Fine Gentleman immediately after reading As You Are, which was Corbin's story. Corbin and Jason are twins, so having their stories intertwine a bit at the beginning time wise was fitting.

It took me a bit to warm up to Mariposa. It was hard to understand why she was so committed to deception and the way she treated Jason. However, as more of her past was revealed, it made sense. I truly enjoyed the second half of the book so much!

I thought the romantic tension that developed between Mariposa and Jason after that halfway point was spot on. They really were a great fit for each other and Mariposa helped Jason begin to enjoy life again. I also liked Jason and Philip reconnecting. The time spent with Jason, Mariposa, Sorrel, and Philip were some of my favorite moments.

Another great thing about this book was getting even more information about the Jonquil family dynamics both before and after Lucas Jonquil's death. It has been interesting for me to be reading the Jonquil Brothers series after having read the first two books of the Gents series. Lucas and Julia Jonquil's story is one of my favorites to have ever read. It broke my heart to realize that Philip's story occurred about ten years after his father, Lucas Jonquil's, death. However, in a way, it made the understanding of what these brothers, and Mater, have gone through feel even more real to me. I am thoroughly enjoying reading through both this series and the Lancaster Family series.

light hearted and entertaining

lots of great lessons about judging people's true character and a nice live story. I enjoyed the two main characters and the life lessons they come to learn by the end of the story.

A favorite for me

I adore this book and the Jonquil brothers. This is one of my favorites in the series. It makes me laugh and cry both. Mariposa's cover persona is hilarious and I chuckle the whole time she confounds Jason. So well written. And his cover story on the post ride is hilarious as well. I laughed so hard the first time I read it. Subsequent readings have made me smile and sometimes I go back to read that part just to enjoy it a second time.

Jason is one of the brothers that you don't really get to know in previous books. He is too busy with his career to spend much time with his family. And when we do see him he is pretty stuffed shirt. It is fun to see him relax and become his old cheerful self again. And it is wonderful to see him get a long better with Phillip.

Mater always seems to be able to give pointed insight and she is very wise in her sights for Jason. I love Mater. And even without ever meeting him, since he died long before the series begins, I love Mater's husband. His impact on the lives of his boys is very clear.

And in this book Jean is also a wise voice who give Jason wonderful advice and a sense of hope. Love him too.

While there is a great deal of laughter in this book, there is also a good deal of sorrow. Mariposa is dealing with what the war has done to her and her family and Jason is still dealing with the loss of his father. But even in the sorrow there is a sense of hope.

I love all the Jonquil brothers and even though I have a TBR list that is getting close to 200 books long, I craved to read about the Jonquils again so I'm reading the series yet again. I just love them. And I look forward to the next one coming out. It can't be soon enough to suit me.

Loved the narration too.
