Resumen del Editor

Halloween Night, 1954. A young, film-obsessed scriptwriter has just been hired at one of the great studios. An anonymous investigation leads from the giant Maximus Films backlot to an eerie graveyard separated from the studio by a single wall.

There he makes a terrifying discovery that thrusts him into a maelstrom of intrigue and mystery - and into the dizzy exhilaration of the movie industry at the height of its glittering power.

Wowsa

What a novel novel! This is a funhouse of a book! The action takes place mostly within the expansive make-believe world of film sets in Hollywood. The narrator is Bradbury describing or fictionalizing (who knows how much) his experiences as a screenwriter. Add a bizarre murder mystery and a zany cast of characters (that you actually come to care about), all shot through a distorted lens with interesting special effects. Loved it!

A murder mystery fever dream

I’m not sure how to feel about this book yet. I need to think on it for a while. It was such a strange story. Like watching a murder mystery while while running a 104 temperature.

What a ride!

Great story. Highly recommend especially if you are interested in studio filming. I was there shotgun for this ride.

Bradbury’s Voice Lost on a Backlot

Neither my favorite Ray Bradbury story nor my favorite mystery. Narrator does a great job intoning, separating, and bringing typically zany RB cast to life. “Twist” was easy to see coming, got to the point where I got frustrated and disconnected just waiting for it to finally happen.
—Note: seems this is the second of a three-book mystery “series”… the story itself (by one of my favorite authors) does not make me want to rush to hear/read the other two.

Brilliant!!!

Bradbury at his best! Every word weighed to fall into the flow <3 an excellent audiobook - a grand adventure into a Hollywood studio from yesteryear - what a treat after having read this book in high school! Wow!!!! Such a grand and layered epic set in the subterranean cemetery next door. Wow, just wow.

Genius written and magic spoken.

Ray Bradbury wrote like Niagara Falls tumbling, rushing over the precipice of time. I wonder at the volume of words yet never miss a single letter.

five hours in and nothing of substance

I stopped at five hours because I started dreading turning it back on. I mean, great writer obsessed with an interesting period of time and place, it should have at least been interesting. It wasn't. Literally five hours of nostalgia with three drips of plot.
