Publisher's summary
Young widow Katherine Osborne returns to her family’s rustic camp on Raquette Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. She’s determined to live a quiet life, but her socialite mother is equally determined to push her into a new marriage while she’s still young.
Andrew Townsend has known Katherine since they were children. An attorney who is successful, but not wealthy, he knows she is socially out of his reach. But he’s curious about what changed the free-spirited girl he once knew into this private, somber young woman.
Katherine has kept hidden the details of her unsuccessful marriage. When past sins come to light, she must turn to God for the courage to be honest. But how can she trust the God she feels has let her down? When she confides in Andrew, their relationship takes a dramatic turn into uncharted territory.
Amid impossible obstacles, two young people must learn to trust enough to walk the path that God has cleared for them. A path that leads to healing and restoration. A path toward love.

Unsatisfying Waste of Time
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
There was no depth to the plot as well as relatively little action. The setting took place in the same area throughout the whole book over a span of several weeks. The author did not lead you up and down with her story, but kept you on the same dismal plane with no real "ups" and "downs" to keep you interested. I love historical romances and I have never written a review before, but I wanted to warn others who might be looking at purchasing this book. Don't waste your time - there are so many other good romances out there with much more interesting plots. I was frustrated throughout the story and kept waiting for it to get better, but I was disappointed in the tidy ending to the monotonous story. In short, it left me extremely underwhelmed. The main characters seem to have no backbone until the very end and you feel like screaming at them because the decisions that they should make are so obvious and wouldn't require as much from them as they think. Aunt Letty was my favorite character because she was the only one who had any sense and brought some stability to the plot. The other characters were cookie cutter - A society girl who obeyed her parents and society even though she wanted to do something else; A hard-working boy who didn't measure up to society and was afraid to date the boss' daughter; An overbearing mother who only had one goal in mind to see her daughter married well; A care-for-nothing good looking young man who always took the easy way out and only thought of himself. These were hardly the right formula to keep you from wanting to turn the next page. Again, I have never written a review before, but I would have appreciated an honest review about this book before I purchased it. Please save yourself some time and find another historical romance - almost any of them would be better than this one.
Has A Path Toward Love turned you off from other books in this genre?
Absolutely not! I know there are so many other good books out there and I am rarely disappointed like I was in this one. It may have turned me off of Cara Lynn James' books though if she is unable to produced a plot that will keep my interest.

Simple and predictable
Although enjoyable, it was cringe worthy at times. Story line was predictable and the characters need to be developed better.

DUMB story!
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
people that don't mind reading the same thing over and over and over again...seriously there is only so many ways you can say..." My mother wants me to marry this rich young man, but I want to prove I can do things on my own and I don't know but I might be falling in love with this not so rich man but he loves me...blah blah blah.....now just repeat that for 300 pages and you've got the book...no joke
What was most disappointing about Cara Lynn James’s story?
the huge lack of any plot , their was no relationship building at all.
Did Angela Dawe do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
not really
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
ummmm not really
Any additional comments?
nope
