Story
Widge is an orphan with a rare talent for shorthand. His fearsome master has just one demand: steal Shakespeare's play "Hamlet" - or else. Widge has no choice but to follow orders, so he works his way into the heart of the Globe Theatre, where Shakespeare's players perform. As full of twists and turns as a London alleyway, this entertaining novel is rich in period details, colorful characters, villainy, and drama.

Story
Twelve-year-old Dory Byrne lives with her brothers on New York City's Lower East Side, waiting impatiently through the darkest hours of World War II for her pop to come home from fighting Hitler. Legally speaking, Dory's brother, Fish, isn't old enough to be in charge of Dory and her younger brother, Pike, but the neighborhood knows the score and, like Pop always says, "the neighborhood will give you what you need." There's the lady from the bakery, who saves them leftover crullers. The kind landlord who checks in on them.

A true crime thriller - the first book for teens to tell the nearly unknown tale of the brazen attempt to steal Abraham Lincoln's body! The action begins in October of 1875, as Secret Service agents raid the workshop of master counterfeiter Ben Boyd. Soon after Boyd is arrested, members of his counterfeiting ring gather to discuss how to spring their ringleader. Widge is an orphan with a rare talent for shorthand. His fearsome master has just one demand: steal Shakespeare's play "Hamlet" - or else. Widge has no choice but to follow orders, so he works his way into the heart of the Globe Theatre, where Shakespeare's players perform. His assistant is an African slave, Juan, who, by helping his master in his studio in the preparation of paints and stretching of canvasses, becomes an artist himself. Self-taught by watching his master's technique, he is torn between the need to keep his secret, for such work as the creation of art is forbidden to slaves, and the desire to reveal his own talents.

Details artfully inlaid...
I started this simple book with my 7th grade daughter who had to read it for a school project.
She thought it was boring, but by the time she listened to the first chapter I could tell she wouldn't stop listening.
Details artfully inlaid to create a beautiful, descriptive book useful for discussion and teaching life lessons. Concepts and conversations here and there, how life can be more beautiful with kindness, contrasted to gruffness.
Do yourself a favor ... delightful!

Beautiful and Touching Story
Beautiful story with so much wisdom. Well-written and well-narrated. Introduced me to the rich history and art of Korean celadon pottery. I’ve always loved that color. I didn’t know it was a thing of cultural significance in Korea. I searched online and found a picture of the crane vase. It’s amazing that people were able to create this 800-900 years ago.
