Publisher's summary

Lawyers. Accountants. Software Engineers. That's what Mom and Dad encouraged us to become. They were wrong. Gone is the age of "left-brain" dominance. The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: designers, inventors, teachers, storytellers - creative and emphatic "right-brain" thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn't.

Drawing on research from around the advanced world, Daniel Pink outlines six fundamentally human abilities that are essential for professional success and personal fulfillment - and reveals how to master them.

From a laughter club in Bombay to an inner-city high school devoted to design, to a lesson on how to detect an insincere smile, A Whole New Mind takes listeners to a daring new place, and offers a provocative and urgent new way of thinking about a future that has already arrived.

Great book, great presentation.

This was a wonderful book in almost every respect. The voice of the narrator was pleasing and the book itself was well served by an audio format. The subject of the book would have us believe that the world will be ruled by right-brained people. But the content of the book suggests that we are all best served by a world populated with and perhaps ruled by "Whole" brain people who have fully integrated their Left and Right brains. I could not more highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring the nature of the human mind and how to use and enjoy it more.

top-class work

One of the best book of this kind. Read brilliantly by the author, Daniel Pink, I enjoyed every passage, exercises and activities in this wonderful little audiobook. It gives a broad perspective about productive mind in 21st century. The book has motivated me to practice empathy, start involving myself in right brain activities like art, design. Must listen by everyone.. especially auditors, accountants, software programmers...

A Smart Mix of Science & Sociology

What made the experience of listening to A Whole New Mind the most enjoyable?

It is an informative book about the brain that does not get too bogged down in scientific specifics, but rather uses a lot of real life examples to illustrate the author's points. Plus, it provides some hope for those of us who are stronger in the right brain.

What other book might you compare A Whole New Mind to and why?

If you like Malcolm Gladwell's books, I think this is comparable.

Which character – as performed by Daniel H. Pink – was your favorite?

N/A as this is non-fiction

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not necessarily, but that's not a bad thing. A book doesn't have to be a rip-roaring page turner to be great. I did get through it pretty quickly.

Any additional comments?

I think that it is hard for an author to strike the right balance between brain science, social commentary and workplace theory, and Daniel Pink does a great job of getting it right here. It's a good book that makes you feel good about the future of jobs in the United States and other developed countries.

Great perspective with effective delivery

I've read several books on this general topic and found Mr. Pink to have a more practical and meaningful approach. The illustrations and data driven story of the changing cultural and economic landscape provides useful insight into this new age.

What a wonderfully thoughtful book!

I highly recommend this book to all. It is thought-provoking, challenging, inspiring, and entertaining. I know I will continue to stew on the concepts presented in this book for years to come. The book is just as relevant, if not more so, than when it was written. I always prefer books narrated by the book's author and this is another great example of this. I feel I understand myself and my surroundings better as a more right-brained person and will better shape my future endeavors after reading this book.
