Publisher's summary

Did you grow up with a mother who was controlling or manipulative? Was she emotionally or psychologically abusive toward you? Did she make you feel ashamed, rejected, or "crazy?" Was it all about her, all of the time? When your mother is a narcissist, it can damage and invalidate your sense of self, and leave you with lasting anxiety, insecurity, self-doubt, and a relentlessly critical internal voice. But there are tools you can use to move forward in your adult life with confidence. The evidence-based skills in this book will help you heal the scars of growing up with a self-absorbed and narcissistic mother.

Written by a psychologist and expert in narcissism, Adult Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers offers proven-effective strategies drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help you reduce anxiety, build confidence, overcome self-criticism, and live the life you deserve. You'll also find tons of practical tips to help you build healthy, trusting relationships; stop apologizing for the failures of others; and start trusting your own good judgment.

If you were raised by a narcissistic mother and are struggling with the lingering effects of a toxic upbringing, this is the road map you need to heal the past and thrive in the present and future.

One of the better books on the subject

I’m 76 and this book, among almost 40 others in my audible library on Narcissism and Empaths is helping me to heal—-and to try to stop the generational emotional trauma that has plagued my family for a long time. I’m trying to break the cycle for my grandchildren and beyond.

I feel seen

I came into this book not really knowing if my mom was a narcissist or not. Over the years I have come to understand that things that seemed unremarkable about my childhood were not as normal as I thought they were and this book helped me to define my experiences much more clearly for myself. Thank you for writing this book. I know I will be listening to it again soon with my journal at the ready to participate more fully.

My soul cried at times…

I will read it again. Some sections were painful and I did not process it too long.

A must read or listen!

This was eye opening for me to understand that my mother’s action or inaction created my internal dialogue. I unknowingly did things or said things to my own children that may have had an effect! I can fix that though 👍🏻

Thank You.

To the author of this book… Thank you. I fell asleep with it on over and over for the first week. It was just so comforting to hear other peoples stories and experiences that were so so much like my own. The journaling parts were excellent as well. I now wonder who I would’ve been if I was allowed to become who I wanted to be.
