Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Jennifer L. Hart comes the next nail-biting adventure of the hilarious mother-daughter Mackenzie & Mackenzie PI team!

Another day, another secret.

Novice PI Mackenzie Taylor is going stir crazy. Deep in the throes of a classic New England winter, the endless hours of following cheating spouses have left her feeling jaded and restless. Not to mention the emotional tug of war when the father of her teenage child suddenly starts hanging around and putting a major crimp in Mackenzie's fledgling relationship with the hot Detective Hunter Black. So when she's asked to help find a missing bride, Mackenzie jumps at the chance to do some good.

Juggling the missing persons case, two headstrong men, being a new landlord of a rundown building, and a 16-year-old daughter/BFF actually acting her age for once and crushing on a much older man has Mackenzie contemplating the upside of running away from home. Instead she throws herself into work. But the more dirt she digs up on the missing bride, the murkier the investigation becomes. Was it a simple case of post-wedding jitters or did the missing woman make a fatal mistake? And is Mackenzie about to follow her footsteps right into the clutches of a killer?

Great read

The story line kept my interest, loved the characters. I think the narrator added to the depth of the characters. Did a superb job. Would read a sequel for sure. Thumbs up to author.

Excellent wit and suspense

I hope the author won't dip any further into creepiness. I'm enjoying the humor and character development and suspense. But if the plot goes further into creepiness (stalker) then I will look for another series that's more cozy and less creepy.

Series is a lot of fun

I read the first book in this series, with some reservations, because I thought it was going to be more suitable to people way younger than I am. To my surprise and delight, I loved it!

This one is just as good. Mackenzie Taylor and her mother inherited a small apartment house from an uncle, and Mackenzie and her computer-wiz daughter also decided to keep his private investigation business going. Along the way, the daughter’s father was revealed to her for the first time (I’m giving nothing away—this happened in the first book, and takes center stage in this one), so there is the tension of the mother-daughter duo learning to allow a third person in. Another person who is important, is one of the tenants, a policeman, whom Mackenzie falls for very quickly. But all of the characters are well-drawn, unique in their own way, and add to the plot nicely!

What is good—plot engaging, moves swiftly, and characters are fun and well-developed. I like most of the comedy, but think the author sometimes pushes a little too hard on it, and it occasionally comes across flat. But all in all, this is a good cozy mystery series—well written, well narrated, and a great listen that was hard to put down. Just what I like; hope you will too!

Quite the twist

I have to admit that I love Jennifer L. Hart's the Laundry Hag and now Mackenzie and Mackenzie. This book kept me entertained and at the tail end I was riveted to the chair I loved each twist and turn.
