Publisher's summary

This program is read by the author.

A lightning-strike dispatch of hilarious, intimate, luminous essays from the brain (and voice!) of Emmy Award-nominated actress and writer Betty Gilpin.

Oh. Hi. *takes six long gulps of water during which you’re like, may I help you?*

My name is Betty. I have depression. I have passion. I have tits the size of printers. And also: I have a brain full of women.

There’s Blanche VonFuckery, Ingrid St. Rash, and a host of others—some cowering in sweatpants, some howling plans for revolution, and one, oh God, and one . . . slowly vomiting up a crow? Worried for her. These women take turns at the wheel. That’s why I feel like a million selves. With a raised eyebrow and a soul-scalpel, I’d like to tell you how I got this way. Because maybe you feel this way too.

Let’s hop from wild dissections of modern womanhood to boarding school musings to the glossy cringe of Hollywood. Let’s laugh at my failures and then quietly hope with me for the dream. Whether that dream is love or liberation or enough IMDB credits to taze the demon snapping at my ankles, we won’t know until the shit-fanning end.

As a dear friend said after listening to this audiobook, it’s “either a masterpiece, or it’s…completely…” and then she glazed over into a haunted stare. Listener? This audiobook is my opus and it is chaos.

If you’ve ever felt like you were more, or at least weirder, than the world expected—welcome to All the Women in My Brain.

Come along, and take a journey through your fellow extroverted introvert’s brain!

Deeply personal & thoroughly cry laugh enjoyable. If you were the kind of kid, after eyeing your high school crush in the hallways, proceeded to overthink what to say for so long that when the perfect ice breaker finally popped into your head you looked up to realize they had walked away minutes earlier and you were now late for gym class…. Betty’s life story is for you. I say this as a straight, white, middle aged dude with a little bit of loved, lost and life under my belt. If you enjoy the company of funny, smart friends, this is like spending a long evening over dinner and drinks with an old and best one as she peels back the layers beneath the porn poodle surface of studying for and working in stage, screen and television (all will be explained in due time). Enjoy the hang…friend.

My brain women loved this

Easily one of my favorite memoirs I have ever read, and certainly one of the best I’ve ever listened to. The author’s humor, deprecation, vulnerability, honesty, and metaphors had me laughing, crying, and empathizing throughout. Betty Gilpin’s narration made it feel like talking to a very funny, thoughtful friend.

I love this book

I love this book, I feel seen. I’m annoyed no one has put into words til now our Salem and our Barbie, but I guess Betty needed to do it for us in her dry, metaphorscape voice.

just read this book

For someone leading a completely different life, thousands of miles away from me, this was somehow as much of a getting-to-know Betty as it was meeting parts of myself. I will be purchasing the physical copy if only to have record of the symphony of metaphor and simile that sings (yells) from every. single. page. Seriously, creative writing. I was a fan from Glow, LOVED her in The Hunt and it is incredible to learn that everything I adored about her performance is actually her, the human.. the monster AND the barbie. Thank you Betty for sharing your story.

Best book of my 2023

Maybe its only February but I already know it. This book is so smart, so hilarious and also so take-your-breathe-away beautiful. I didn’t know Gilpin prior to this book and now Im a big fan. It’s impossible not to be after this collection especially if you hear her perform it. What a voice.
A metaphor filled look into the entertainment industry and the life of an artist - you won’t regret this read if you find yourself toggling between being at odds and in love with yourself, and with other women (or humans) on an hourly basis. Recommending to every literate person I know.

Loved it!

I bought this on the recommendation of celebrity book club podcast not knowing Betty.
I really enjoyed Betty's sense of humor and the insight she gave to becoming an actor. She has lived a very interesting life. I think any woman could relate and appreciate this book.

10/10

Vulnerable, open, and funny. A great memoir on the struggles of being a woman who is reaching and searching for connection. We see your light miss girl. 💖
