Publisher's summary

The ninth book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

They say you shouldn't push your luck. Max gives her own luck a massive shove every day - and it's only a matter of time until luck pushes back...

January 1536 - the day of Henry VIII's infamous jousting accident. Historians from St Mary's are there in force, recording and documenting. And, arguing - obviously.

A chance meeting between Max and the Time Police leads to a plan of action. And, it's one that will have very serious consequences - especially for Max. Her private life is already more than a little rocky. But with Leon recovering and Matthew safe in the future there will never be a better opportunity to bring down Clive Ronan, once and for all.

From Tudor England to the burning city of Persepolis - and from a medieval siege to a very nasty case of 19th century incarceration - Max is determined that this time, he will not escape.

❤️ St Mary’s

I love the Chronicles of St Mary’s. With that in mind, I have a few recommendations for Max. #1: Learn Jiu Jitsu for God’s sake. Knowing that Clive Ronan and his idiots are always one step ahead and have a habit of kicking the shit out of you, learn martial arts now! #2: Stop taking off on your own. You know he always gets you when you are alone. #3: Please Jodi, throw us a bone. I am so tired of Clive winning, or at the very least, getting away with everything. Please give us something. There has to be karma for what he’s done. #4: Please bring Matthew home. Messing with children messes with our heads and considering this series could go on forever (please do) we need some happiness for Max, Leon, and Matthew. I missed the rest of the cast immensely in this book. Oh, and throwing in that bit with William really, really, really hurt. When does volume #10 come out?

My Favorite St. Mary’s to Date

While I am getting rather tired of Clive Ronin (whose motives become more obscure with each new book), I absolutely loved this book. I loved the long stay in the 14th century, loved the character development. Loved that Max acted more adult than usual. I was sort of hoping she’d stay on there. I highly recommend this book; it’s delightful

Can I live at St Mary's?

Once again Jodi Taylor triumphs and I grieve the ending of another great book. Zara Ramm is fantastic and brings these characters to life in a way that rarely happens.

Max is at it again

This time it's a more personal story focusing almost entirely on Max. There is a trap to capture Ronan and get her life back. While they lay the trap at St. Mary's, Max is safely in the past observing Alexander the Great burn a city to the ground. What could possibly go wrong? Yeah, if you know the series and you know Max, you know that EVERYTHING goes wrong.

Zara Ramm does her usual excellent job as the narrator.
Jodi Taylor is at her best with the story.

But that ending...ARGH!
The next installment better be on it's way very soon please.

As usual... the best

I absolutely love these books. The narrator is wonderful. The story is addictive. And now I'm back in purgatory for at least a year awaiting another installment.
