Publisher's summary

Richard Brockwell, the younger son of Ivy Hill's most prominent family, hasn't been home for Christmas in years. He prefers to live in the London townhouse, far away from Brockwell Court, the old family secret that haunts him, and the shadows of his past mistakes. But then his mother threatens to stop funding his carefree life - unless he comes home for Christmas. Out of options, he sets out for Ivy Hill, planning to be back on a coach bound for London and his unencumbered bachelor life as soon as the festivities are over.

But Christmas in the country presents unforeseen surprises, including encounters with an orphaned apprentice, the first love he disappointed years ago, and Arabella Awdry, a young lady who is far more appealing than he recalled...and determined to have nothing to do with him.

Will Christmastime in Ivy Hill, with its village charm, kissing boughs, joyous songs, and divine hope, work its magic in his heart...and hers as well?

Great addition to the Ivy Hill series

Visiting Ivy Hill at Christmas was great for the imagination. Having read the previous books, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones was fun and festive. It felt like I was stepping into the Victorian English countryside and experiencing the twelve days of Christmas traditions with the characters. A fun read.

Excellent!

I throughly enjoyed this book from J. Klassen- I was a little surprised by the Christian influence into the story but it did not diminish it or consume it - I am looking forward to hearing the other books in the series !

LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!

This is such a sweet story, and if you’ve read the Ivy Hill series you are going to want to read this one too! I love how it involves and Christ centered Christmas, and it’s quite the redemption story.

Salve for the Soul

A Dickensian style Christmas delight. Just what we all need at this time of year and during these troubling times. I smiled through it!

Beautiful Christmas Novel

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters are believable and delightful. I only wish the ending had been at least a few paragraphs longer. However, it’s better to wish a novel were longer than to wish it would finally end already. This novel is truly enjoyable.

Perfect Christmas Read

I liked this a lot! It was my first read by this author, so I didn't know what to expect. To be honest, I also went into it without having read the synopsis again since marking it as to-read a couple month ago, so I doubly didn't know what to expect. XD It was extremely sweet and charming. Richard and Arabella won me over immediately and the story kept me engaged throughout. Not with action, adventure, or even much drama, but with learning about each character and their pasts and wanting to see who they became. I really enjoyed the setting a lot with it being in (I think) Regency era England at Christmas time. I also liked that the story wasn't 100% focused on the romance. That was a major element, yes, but Richard was also trying to help a little boy who was being treated badly by the man he was working for and I liked seeing that side of him.

Overall, this was a perfect Christmas read (or listen, since I listened to it on audio) and I'd recommend it to lovers of historical fiction and Christmas stories.
