Publisher's summary

The eighth book in the bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

Because, my dear Max, you dance on the edge of darkness ... and I don't think it would take very much for you to dance my way.

When an old enemy appears out of nowhere with an astonishing proposition for Max - a proposition that could change everything Max is tempted. Very tempted.

With an end to an old conflict finally in sight, it looks as if St Mary's problems are over with. Can they all now live happily ever after?

As everything hangs in the balance, Max and St Mary's find themselves engulfed in tragedies worse than they could ever imagine.

Is this the end?

Critic reviews

"A carnival ride through laughter and tears with a bit of time travel thrown in for spice...readers will be impatient for later instalments." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Taylor has written a madcap and very funny hodgepodge of a novel whose pacing and humour is reminiscent of a Simon Pegg-Edgar Wright film." ( Booklist)

Initiate jump!

This series should come with a warning. Highly addictive. You might as well gather all of them into your library now or you will find yourself in the “store" at 3 am buying the next instalment.

Quick! Write more !

I tried to not finish this book, because I knew it was the last one-- but I needed to know what happened next! (Or maybe before, it could have happened in the past--- ah, but don't call it time travel). How long until Book 9?

Another Great St Mary's Adventure

If you could sum up And the Rest Is History in three words, what would they be?

Another Great St Mary's Adventure. You'll Laugh and you'll cry. I have truly enjoyed the entire series.

Have you listened to any of Zara Ramm’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Ms Ramm did an excellent job, as usual.

Any additional comments?

Someone else wrote about having to wait an entire year for the next one. But "And the Rest Is History" felt like the last one in the series to me.

Not a rollicking good time!

It's heart-wrenchingly difficult to read. Cried more than I laughed. Normally, I love these books.

Another witty romp

Vaguely historical, slightly hysterical installation of the St Mary’s books. Wonderfully narrated and just over all excellent. Love it

A little gore

I just found this series and ordered 8 books in the late 6 weeks, they are fun. I love the history and the suspense, but this one had a bit too much blood and guts in the war of history. I found descriptions of the battles over the top and fast-forwarded through them, I don't know what happened in this book may be the writer needed to fill up pages. Still buying the next one to see what happens but I will let you know if the gore happens again.

Quite Dark

Any additional comments?

Fabulous writing, as always! However, this book was considerably darker than previous ones in the series. I have no illusions that history is/was pretty, but some of the violence was a bit too graphic for me.

Love/Hate- what we humans do

I love this series. I love history. I hate this book! What an incredible author! Evoking such strong emotion I could have turned the book off at least ten times. She has made history real. If any one, in today’s times, would actually learn from the atrocities of our past: war would not happen, whining about inequalities and hatred would not exist. We would appreciate our current lives and improve life for everyone. The 10% of the population who commits the 90% of crime should be allowed to travel back in time to the historical date most be feting. Time to open your eyes and see! Will we never learn?

Didn’t see it coming!

This was a tough one on two levels, Historical battles and characters. Does anyone else google the places, battles and events this crew jumps, Or am I the only nerd? Of course I had my own ideas of how the book would end, which I did not want it to, and of course I was wrong. However, it was a super way to set up the next book which I will tear into right this very second. Narrator/performer Zara should get an Academy award for her performances. CLEARLY well educated and exceptional at her job.
