About this listen
Welcome to the Animal Kingdom!
While those visiting this world previously may have had endless lives, that luxury will no longer be available to you. Death is permanent. The rules in the animal kingdom have always been survival of the fittest.
Do you have what it takes?
When Arthur suddenly finds himself trapped in a brutal and twisted version of his favorite game, he is quickly forced to learn how to adapt to his new environment or perish. The Animal Kingdom is a wild and unforgiving place, and even the smallest hint of weakness can spell certain doom.
Will he rise to the challenge and climb to the top of the food chain, or will he fall prey to someone else and end up as just another meal...?
Warning: Contains mild profanity, gore, and content that may not be suitable for children. This is a litRPG audiobook, containing stat sheets, experience gain, and loot (talking frogs do not apply). You have been warned!

Story
Keith has died 12 times. After making a deal with a mysterious immortal, he was sent to a new world in hopes of gaining the offered reward - a chance at a better life with his family. However, Keith failed to realize that this deal did not come with an expiration date, no matter how many times he died. After dying for the dozenth time, Keith renegotiates with the immortal. This new deal will see him sent to the world of Raiah - a world filled with monsters, cowardly monkeys, and a system of magic very similar to the fantasy roleplaying games his brother used to enjoy.

Pretty good, could use a little more editing.
This was a very linear LitRPG. It doesn’t really have that feeling of open adventure and boundless opportunity that I’ve found is a staple of my favorite series in this genre. However, Riot was very entertaining and has solid, interesting characters. Doug Tisdale Jr. does an adequate job of narrating, and I stayed fully engrossed all the way through the audiobook.
Overall the writing was fairly good, but there were a couple things that Oster really needs to sort out...
First and foremost, his use of pronouns was terribly executed throughout the whole book. In both action scenes and conversations there was often no way to tell to whom he was referring. Talking about three male characters at once and repeatedly saying “he” instead of the character’s names (or using definitive descriptors) made it so you had to figure out who he was talking about through context alone, and often that wasn’t enough to puzzle it out.
This is just basic editing, and I’m surprised that an author with this many solid works under his belt wouldn’t have the resources to get decent beta-readers, let alone editors, to solve these kinds of problems before the books get published....
—-let me interrupt myself right here by saying this book is worth the credit in spite of having some minor issues, and not being a grand-slam, 5 star GameLit Treasure. It’s a fun listen and I enjoyed it...
———-from here on out I use the cheap excuse of critiquing this audiobook to get up on my soapbox and rant at the internet and the world at large about the ruination of our beloved language. If this does not interest you then please skip it, and go buy this audiobook instead. Thank you. ——————
Secondly, this book also has a grammar problem that our society at large seems to have totally failed at learning... when to use “I” or “me” in a sentence where a second person or thing is added into it.
For example, “Susie and me went to the grocery store,” I hear this mistake so often on TV, in movies, and in audiobooks that it makes my soul cringe. Adding two words to a sentence has become the kryptonite of grammar in the US, and has mysteriously made everyone talk like cave-men/women. For those of you whose ears have been tainted, if you remove the words “Susie and,” from the sentence, it now reads, “Me went to the grocery store,” which is just stupid.
Mr. Oster, I understand that it’s easy to make this mistake when it’s so common in our society, it’s gotten so bad that people’s’ ears can’t tell the difference.... Now, normally I think the snippy grammar/vocab police who get upset over every new word mutation that enters the lexicon need to get a life or at least get laid. However, this error just makes us all sound stupid and makes no sense. As a person with some influence over how people hear our written language expressed, I hope that you’ll help fight the good fight, and ask your editors to pay special attention to this on your books going forward. Just because most of our society doesn’t even notice when they mangle the language does not mean that we should reinforce it.
I look forward to your next release.
