Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who's fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that. Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

Meet John Milton. He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder. Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd but you wouldn't want to be on his list. In this second dip into his case files (see 1000 Yards for a further novella), Milton is sent to Italy to investigate the death of a colleague from Group 15.

Can't get enough
This series just has me hooked on the characters, the plot and the locations and history. George Guidal has never been in better form and I can not imagine anyone doing justice to these characters as well as he does. I hope Mr. Johnson never allows anyone else to read his novels.
If you haven't listened to any of his books yet, go back and start with " A Cold Dish" and work your way forward. IF you like a good mystery with excellent writing you can't find better.

Don't let the Vietnam War plot put you off
I wasn't looking forward to this one because I knew it had a Vietnam War angle, and I really don’t feel the need to read another book about it. But it was superb, perfectly plotted back and forth between the present day and the war, as a young Vietnamese woman's body was found dumped beside a Wyoming highway. This was the book where I fully realized Johnson's books are something special. Grade: A-
Perfect narration.

Mostly excellent
Love the narrator and story. However, the character Vic is too much for me. I don’t believe she’s necessary to the story. Her potty mouth is over the top and unnecessary and the gratuitous sex talk is off putting. I hope she mellows out in the next series of books. Not sure if I can keep listening, otherwise.

Loved this series!!
Where does Another Man's Moccasins rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
I loved this series. I like westerns of any era and interrupted some other series to finish Craig Johnson's books.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Plots were great. The 1st person is great at keeping my interest as he goes from one situation to another.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
The voice--loved the gravel and inflection. Easy to create a picture in my mind of this lawman... He was great at portraying the emotions of Walt Longmire all the way through.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did!!! All of the ones that were only 1 part anyway.
Any additional comments?
I'm on the lookout for anything else he writes and I hope he's not as slow as some of the authors whose books I've devoured the past few years. ;-)

I enjoy all of the books by this author but particularly the narration. they are extremely interesting and very detailed and in this particular case the flashbacks to the Vietnam era were right up my alley as I served during that period.
