Publisher's summary

Very few knew Antonia, despite her fame as La Stella di Venezia. In decadent 18th century Venice, she develops from Vivaldi’s star pupil into his musical colleague and the pride of Venetian music.

After falling in love with Orlando Sagredo - master planner of the Palio - Antonia recognizes the emotional bondage she has never questioned.

Antonia of Venice is inhabited by brilliant musicians, avaricious politicians, and ineffectual rulers of the Republic. Through it all, the people and music Antonia loves take the listener into the depths of revenge and selflessness, as the story advances the timeless, feminine heroic as a powerful and equal partner to the masculine.

Beautiful

It was a long and complex book which came to life through Stevie Zimmerman’s great narration. Antonia’s childhood experiences and her dedication to music from the early age set the base for her story of growing as a mature musician. Thought fictional, the book gives a true and detailed description of life, intrigued and politics in Italy of Vivaldi’s times. Very colorful portrayal of a relation between the famous composer and his musical orphans. My favorite partS of the book we’re visionary glimpses into minds of two people totally devoted to music. Stevie Zimmerman’s narration gave these scenes almost mystical quality.
It’s not an easy read due to multiple details and switching between characters but well worth the effort.
