Publisher's summary

It's rare that an actor embodies even one memorable character over the arc of a career. Jeffrey Tambor has managed to create three, beginning with Hank "Hey Now!" Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show, the series created by Garry Shandling, Jeffrey's first mentor in television. He went on to find two more show creators, Mitch Hurwitz of Arrested Development and Jill Soloway of Transparent, who shared a love of actors and taught him a lot about acting along the way.

Are You Anybody? is Tambor's chance to discuss his creative process and immense accomplishments from a life lived onscreen. Drawing from his formative childhood years, in which he describes himself as a fat Hungarian Jewish kid with a lisp and a depressive father, to how he drew inspiration from his life to create these characters, Tambor's memoir is funny, insightful, and uplifting, touching on comedy and the enduring chutzpah required to make it through life.

Critic reviews

"Tambor is an actor's actor, and his audiobook should appeal to anyone who is fascinated by the work of artists, particularly one with his stature.... Throughout his audiobook, Tambor maps his journey with a welcoming, engaging, and always entertaining voice. He's a seasoned pro telling stories of his career, but he remains self-effacing throughout." ( AudioFile)

Jeffrey, You Are Somebody

A surprisingly "enthralling" (read to find out why I chose that word), personal, and loving memoir, "Are You Somebody" is a tale of life lessons, triumphs, and failures generously shared by Jeffrey Tambor. Jeffrey provides deep insight into the career path of a real actor, and lovingly reflects on the positive and negative influences in his life. A difficult family life, stage mishaps, and an unfortunate stint with Scientology, all shaped his craft and his perspective.

Jeffrey provides a sincere narration that made it impossible for me to stop listening, and so I did a rare thing - and listened straight through to the end. Looking for my next memoir / bio to read, but knowing I will be slightly disappointed after being treated to Are You Anybody.

Great Listen

Really interesting to have Jeffrey explain his experiences. It was funny and involving I loved hearing about all the people he's worked with.

Amazing!

Tambour's life is filled with hilarity, angst, a horrible mother and great stories. I highly recommend this book. Fantastic.

A well read biography

I found this book to be heartfelt and bittersweet. it is well read by Jeffrey Tambor. I can hear the sadness, the smiling, the fuckem, and the admiration he has for those who taught and/or inspired him in his craft.
Thank you, Kasha, for keeping him around for us. Jeffery, Mr. Tambor (the auto correct keeps correcting to Talbot, FYI), thank you for the work you've done these many years. You are an icon.

Beautiful

What a beautiful, honest, funny life story. One of the best memoirs I've listen to in a long time, full of life lessons, although the author my cringe to hear me say so because he's a humble guy.

Wonderful

Incredibly fascinating (and often hilarious) tales of Tambor's long and varied career, read by the author himself. It's engaging, poignant, and downright entertaining.

HEY NOW--listen to this book. It's really great stuff.

Atta Boy, Jeffrey!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Outstanding! Full of great stories and hilarious confessions, beautifully written and read. But above all, get it for the absolute treat of listening to such an incredible human being courageously tell you his story as honestly and openly as if you were a trusted friend. I've read scores of memoirs, and this is one of the very best ever. So thanks Jeffrey -- and hey -- CELEBRATE!!

Great story, wonderfully told.

This book provides a wonderful look into Mr. Tambor's life and career. Mr. Tambor is a fantastic narrator and makes it feel like you are sitting across the table from him as he tells his story. He also offers some great life lessons along the way. "Atta boy, Jeffrey!"
