Publisher's summary
When Andrew Gaeta is questioned in connection with a geological disaster in the Pacific Ocean, he fears that painful hallucinations and coded messages he has kept hidden since childhood may be catching up with him.
Twenty years earlier, Andrew's 11-year-old mind is filled with tough questions about life, death, and innocence lost. He stumbles onto a series of cryptic messages by finding a clue in an old gift from his father, who was killed in action serving the Air Force when Andrew was three. Follow Andrew through key milestones as he pieces together clues to his father's legacy. Will they help him overcome his unique affliction, or lead to his demise?
In the present day, restrained in a clinic, Andrew is questioned and tested by neurobiologists about the messages that he had always assumed were deeply personal. As Andrew and his captors each discover pieces of what the other is hiding, Andrew is forced to balance his own secret journey with the chance to help solve the Pacific crisis.
A uniquely devolving narrative contrasts Andrew's bright and adventurous youth with the stark alternate present. Cerebral and empathetic, this puzzle thriller will keep you guessing to the end.

Rebecca and Daniel have never met. A 15-year-old preacher's kid and a 16-year-old atheist outcast, they appear to have little in common. And yet they both have attracted the attention of a recruiter for Angel Island, where bad kids go to be remade-or destroyed. Agents of the all-powerful New America Unity Church will stop at nothing to get them. They're building an army, a modern children's crusade, in which Rebecca and Daniel may be just the kind of future leaders they need. If not, they might be just the kind of sacrifice necessary to keep the rest of the faithless in line.

The machines started popping up around the world. The offer was tempting: with a simple blood test, anyone could know how they would die. But the machines didn't give dates or specific circumstances - just a single word or phrase. DROWNED, CANCER, OLD AGE, CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN. And though the predictions were always accurate, they were also often frustratingly vague.

Story
Today, our bodies define us. We color our hair; tattoo our skin; pierce our ears, brows, noses. We lift weights, run miles, break records. We are flesh and blood and bone. Tomorrow has different rules. The future is no longer about who we are - it's about who we want to be. If you can dream it, you can be it. Science will make us smarter, healthier, flawless in every way. Our future is boundless. This is a story that begins tomorrow. It's a story about us. It's a story about who comes after us. And it's a story about perfection. Because perfection has a way of getting ugly.

Mind blowing quasi-dystopian mystery
Narrator has a true connection with this one of a kind story. The dedication gave me chills and the story quickly builds into a fantastic mystery/dystopian adventure. The pace is excellent. Urgent scenes don’t drag, and the emotional scenes are masterfully performed. Sounds like the author performed voices for every character, had to be 20 to 30, but none of them sounded corny or confusing. I can’t wait for the next installment so I can learn what happens with andrew’s coils... HIGHLY recommend for mystery and thriller fans.
