Publisher's summary

A horse breeder by trade, Corbin Jonquil is more at home in the stables than in the ballroom of his sprawling estate. Corbin is the quietest of the Jonquil brothers and has always faded into the background, contentedly unnoticed. When a mysterious young widow, Mrs. Clara Bentford, moves into the neighborhood, however, Corbin quickly comes to realize that being noticed has its advantages. But how to catch the eye of the lady? According to his brothers, Corbin need only make a few simple changes to transform himself into the object of any woman's desire - dubious advice, indeed. Following a series of misadventures, Corbin and Clara slowly lower the facades behind which they've been hiding, leaving Corbin shocked by the horrors that haunt the woman he's coming to care for so ardently. When the menace of Clara's past threatens to tear them apart and tensions mount, will the couple have the courage to fight for the promise of forever?

Listen Again and Again

What did you love best about As You Are?

As a reserved person myself, I loved the characters in As You Are. Corbin and Clara are a believable pair of people who find the courage to love each other despite difficulties.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The entire Jonquil family seems to live and breathe in the story, but Corbin is special. His inner voice is kind and humble and intuitive while he speaks little out loud. He finds himself is some hilarious situations as he tries to gain Clara's good opinion. His steadfast integrity, work ethic, and patience make him the man who is right for Clara and her children.

Which scene was your favorite?

While there are several scenes that made me laugh, I especially enjoyed the scene where Corbin offers to take Clara riding. He finally shares more of himself with the woman who possesses his heart, and he defends her with the courage of a true Jonquil when her former brother-in-law makes a pest of himself.

Any additional comments?

The narrator has a wonderfully rich voice. His chuckle never fails to bring a smile to my face. Jason Tatom offers a touching performance of a heart-warming story.

I LOVE the Jonquil brothers

I absolutely adore the Jonquil brothers. Each one has a place in my heart but I think Corbin may well be my favorite. Corbin's awkward personality made me smile through out the book. And feel bad for him too. I am not sure how many times I've read or listened to this book since I didn't note each time here in my records but in the beginning readings I wondered how in the world Corbin and Clara could misunderstand each other so much. Now I see what lens they each look through in every situation. Their own insecurities made them unable to believe what is obvious to the reader and their past experiences make them unable to believe any differently. Clara's position is the most obvious. She has been abused by every man in her life. How can she possible believe there are good and caring men at all? She has never seen anything different. As she learns that not only is there one good man, but a whole family of good men, plus their friends that are all willing to help, it makes me feel all swoony. Yes, I love the Jonquils.
In addition to feeling the swoon and loving seeing how wonderful Corbin is as a loving and caring father, this book also appeals to my sense of justice. I LOVED the Duke of Kielder's appearance in this story and his ability to do what no one else seemed able to do. He is able to make evil men stop. Not because they desire to change but because he scares the beeswax out of them so they fear continuing on their evil path. And as there are two evil men in this story, I also loved how they handled getting rid of Finnley. He is awful. And they are able to use his own bad conduct against him. Slimy man. He makes me shudder. But I love those Jonquils.

Sex: no. A little innuendo.
Language: no
Violence: references to past physical and emotional abuse. Some self defense. And some well deserved threatening behavior.

A Very Touching Story

If out can get over the this being read by Darth Vader, it is worth a listen and a great addition to the series.

It's hard to choose a favorite but I think Corbin wins. This is such a great addition to the Jonquil Brothers series!

not a fan of the male reader.

not a fan of how the male reader portrayed women and children. also noticed SEVERAL skips where it seemed spliced together.

my favorite

I Love all of the jonquil Brothers but this story is the one that makes me smile and sigh the most. I have but one complaint and it is that sometimes the narrators breathing is really distracting from the story. My husband didn't even notice it but I do have to put some of the slow parts on double speed just to shorten the sound of intaking breath narrator constantly makes. If you like ASMR (which admittedly I don't) it will probably just be another layer of enjoyment for you. And if you are like me the story is totally worth the weird I'm being drowned between each sentence breathing.

I Love the Jonquil books

This book was wonderful. I like how it showed the different brothers personalities and how they are all good men willing to help people. Each is good for their lady especially Corbin, who learned being himself was the best way to help Clara love him.
It was nice to have this book read by a man as there are so many male characters.

An American reader

I really liked the story but I continued to think about why use a American to read a British regency novel, but getting past that it was a good clean novel
