It has been a thousand years since the Gods were banished in the war between good and evil. Magic was stripped from the land and the survivors have been forced to rebuild civilization underground. But nothing can be easy as mutants still stalk them in the darkness and political games threaten the illusion of peace. Things that should have stayed forgotten stir once more in a world of Ash and Brimstone.
This story is told from several points of view, a runic scholar banished for asking the wrong questions, a monster with a growing fascination for firearms, and several mercenaries who have found their status as humans surprisingly suspect.
There are elements of town building, weapon crafting, and logical applications of morally dubious problem solving. For fans of Aliens, The Thing, Dead Space, and dry humor.

Fantastic start to a new series!
The author creates a seriously well-constructed world. I became attached to each imperfect but colorful character as the story unfolded. I highly recommend a listen! Loved the narration. It added an entire layer of humor to the book which made it hard to listening to. I found myself up until the wee hours enjoying it. Bravo!

Great story!
I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator did a great job with the different voices and bringing the story to life. I am looking forward to the sequel.
