Publisher's summary

Peopled by larger-than-life heroes and villains, charged with towering questions of good and evil, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand’s magnum opus: a philosophical revolution told in the form of an action thriller—nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

Atlas Shrugged is the "second most influential book for Americans today" after the Bible, according to a joint survey of five thousand people conducted by the Library of Congress and the Book of the Month Club in 1991.

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts?

This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world—and did. In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, he sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he have to fight his battle not against his enemies but against those who need him most? Why does he fight his hardest battle against the woman he loves? The answers will be revealed once you discover the reason behind the baffling events that wreak havoc on the lives of the amazing men and women in this remarkable book.

Tremendous in scope and breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus, which launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who had never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

Scott Brick nails it.

I read reviews stating that Brick didn't capture the emotion and intensity of the characters, and that couldn't be further from the truth. He absolutely captured every part of the characters and mesmerized me for the entire 60 hours. Can't recommend highly enough.

A Fantastic Story

What made the experience of listening to Atlas Shrugged the most enjoyable?

The reader made the story come alive. I don't think I would make it through reading over 1000 pages.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Atlas Shrugged?

When Daphne crashed landed in the valley and John Gault was the first person she saw.

Which scene was your favorite?

See the above answer.

Great political concept mixed w/human connection

Where does Atlas Shrugged rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

9 out of 10.. I'm not sure what ten was but it was so far above the other books I've heard, that it's way up there. They do a good job of painting a political picture of where the world is and/or can go and connects it to you personally at a human level, all while holding suspense, mystery, and excitement. The narrator does a great job of painting the picture of the each scene and individual.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Francisco was a self- motivated, 12 steps ahead individual who thought on multiple levels outside of the perverbial box. This is the way all humans should strive to be.

Which scene was your favorite?

I don't have a favorite

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Wish I could, but 60 hrs doesn't fit in one sitting..

A brilliant book

Having read this book before I know that it is brilliant and a must read, but I cannot listen to the narrator of this audio version. One and a half chapters was all I could bear. I have sought out the Christopher Hurt narration and purchased that. He was great at reading the Fountainhead, so hopefully just as great at reading Atlas Shrugged.

Must Read

It was a mix between deep philosophy and horny schoolgirl, but I loved it start to finish.

Classic

This book is a classic. I love the speeches. It solidified my belief that socialism economy is not effective and that capitalism is currently the best thing we have economically.

Wow.

This book should be required reading. It speaks directly to the inherent traits of man and his tendency to either misrepresent and exploit, or contribute to the greater whole by serving himself through developing his talents for his betterment. Therefore I believe it exposes the reality of liberalism.

Excepcional!!
