Journey back nearly 26,000 years to a time when wooly mammoths ruled the land. These early cousins to our modern elephants could grow up to 12 feet in height and weigh nearly seven tons. Yet, as impressive as these beasts were, they are only one of the nearly 60 specimens of prehistoric animals that have been found at the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs South Dakota. Follow along with Patricia L. Lawrence and Dr. Larry Agenbroad as they take you back to an exciting time filled with animals and creatures unknown to the average person.

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs South Dakota announced in 2011 that it now has discovered 60 specimens of prehistoric animals in this unique paleontological site. This is where, more than 26,000 years ago, large Columbian and woolly mammoths were trapped and died in a spring-fed pond. Now we visit the in-situ site. Dr. Larry Agenbroad, founder of the site, is our guide.
